Sacramento, June 28, 1899

The Board of Officers met in the synagogue at 8 P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, President, in the chair. Roll called, all noted present.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved. The names of several applicants for Rabbi to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. A. Simon were read with recommendations &c. among the names. The Board decided to call a special meeting of the members of the congregation on Wednesday evening July 5 at 7:30 for the purpose of electing a Rabbi & the names of Rev. Greenburg, [?Zelinsky], Fabor & Schreiber & Zelosky be submitted. And the Secretary was instructed to call a special meeting for that purpose & also to make arrangements for the coming holiday. Moved & seconded that services in the synagogue be discontinued during the months of July & August and the choir dispensed with.

The following warrants were ordered drawn on the Treasurer for Salary & Bills Mr. Wilson Collector 50.00 Mr. Mohns, taking care Cemetery 15.00 Mrs. Hanley Organist 10.00 Mrs. Ross, Singing in choir 10.00 Cap. Gas Co. 4.30 Day & Joy printing & postals 1.75 Total $ 91.05

S. Stein [Note] & Mrs. Ross were suspended for nonpayment of fees.

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, July 26, 1899

The regular meeting of the Board of Officers met in the synagogue at 8 PM. Mr. Albert Elkus presiding. Roll call and absentees noted. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

Mr. Heilbron, chairman, reported that the work at cemetery had been done, the contract price being $35.00, and if paid now the party who done the work was willing to cut off $3.00. On motion it was ordered that the proposition be accepted and warrant drawn on the Treasurer for the amount.

Mr. Heilbron further reported that there are many tombstones which are in bad order, & that the person who done the other work was willing to fix them in good order for $5.00. The chairman, Mr. Heilbron, was authorized to have the work done.

The questions about engaging someone for conducting services during the holidays was left with the President to correspond with Mr. Magnes in Oakland, and ask him his terms.

The following bills were read and ordered paid & warrants drawn on the Treasurer for the amounts R.S. Jones repairing the front sliding door 2.25 Heilbron & Co. sponges & rep of lock cemetery .65 Day & Joy printing postal cards 1.60 Salary M. Wilson 50.00 Mr. Mohns cemetery 15.00 Work in cemetery 32.00

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Special Meeting

Sacramento, August 23, 1899

The board of officers of the congregation pursuant to notice, met in the synagogue at 8 P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, president, presiding.

The chair stated the object of meeting was to make arrangements for the coming holidays. The president stated that he has been corresponding in regards to get someone to officiate during the holiday and that Mr. Mongola teacher in the university has been mentioned. The president was authorized with communicate with that gentleman to ascertain if qualified to officiate as cantor & preacher and find out the terms. Mr. Weinstock stated that he would be in San Francisco on next Saturday, and if the president would communicate that fact to Mr. Magola then Mr. Weinstock would meet him in his office in San Francisco & would ascertain if qualified & willing to officiate & Mr. Weinstock giving full power to [?act]

The following schedule of prices for seats was adopted by the board. Row 1 for members 5.00 " 2 & 3 " 3.00 Nonmembers $5.00 " 4, 5, 6 " 2.50 " 3.50 " 7 ,8 " 2.00 " 3.00 " 9 to 14 [??] " 1.00 " 2.50

And the secretary was instructed to send notices to members to that effect.

Special Meeting Sacramento, August 31, 1899

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Albert Elkus, President, at 8 PM. Roll called and absentees noted. Minutes of last special meeting read and approved.

The President stated that it was impossible to get any one to officiate, that Mr. Maugola wanted $150.00 and all expenses paid.

The resignation of Mr. H. Marks and Mrs. C. Joseph were read and on motion were ordered accepted.

The Secretary was instructed to invite Mr. Jacob Guisberg to officiate and recite the prayers in the Orthodox style on New Year morning until 10 and to read the scroll, and blow the shofar, and give the services on the 2nd day of New Year, also to occupy the pulpit and recite prayers in the Orthodox style on the day of Yom Kippur in the morning until 10 oclock. And read from the scroll. On motion it was ordered that the Board asks Mr. Weinstock to deliver lectures on both holidays The Secretary was instructed to send out invitations to nonmembers and send a schedule of prices also that they are welcome to the synagogue.

Regular Meeting Sacramento, October 4th, 1899

The Board of Officers met in the synagogue at 8 pm. Mr. Albert Elkus presiding.

Roll call Mr. H. Fraley, school director director noted absent.

Minutes of last special meeting read and approved.

Mrs. S. Lavenson appeared before the meeting as a Committee of one of the Ladies Auxiliary Society stating that at the last meeting of the Ladies of that society, they have donated the sum of $60.00 for the purpose of having some repairs done in the synagogue. And Mrs. Albert Elkus also appeared before the meeing from the part of the Ladies Hebrew Benevolent Society stating that the society has also donated the sum of 140.00 this amount likeness to be used for the renovating the interior of the Synagogue.

On motion, it was ordered that the report of the Ladies be received and the secretary was instructed to communicate with the Secretaries of the Ladies Auxiliary Society and the Ladies Hebrew Benevolent Assn. to accept the thanks from the Board in the name of the congregation for their generous donations.

On motion, it was ordered that a committee of 2 be appointed to meet in conjunction with a committee from both the Ladies Societies and ascertain what is to be done and find out the cost of same and the Secretary to notify the Ladies Auxilary and Ladies Hebrew Benevolent Assn. as to that affect. The chair appointed Mr. A. Bonheim and H. Fraley. On motion the President was added to that committee.
