Tues July 19 Clear and nice all day and didnt rain but was pretty warm. Lew and Jake hauled 6 loads of hay to day. Kib raked most of the time to day. I went to town this morning to get some work done by the blacks smith to the tongue and neck yoke of the machine and some fixing for the rake and filled the cistern and this afternoon Lew and I fixed the rake before we went up to work.

Wed July 20 Threatening all day and looks very much like rain tonight. Lew and Jake hauled 2 loads of hay and stacked it. Kib raked and shocked. I mowed pretty much all day had Mr Dixons horse done most of the cutting on the 6 acre piece. I stopped and shocked awhile in the forenoon but a gut of wind came alone and undone in two minutes what took me two hours to do.

Thurs July 21 It looked like rain about all day and has been pretty warm. Lew and Jake hauled and stacked 6 loads of hay. Kib raked for a business to day. I mowed and have got on to the last piece which is the side hill next to the road.

Fri July 22 Quite a nice day but threatened and thundered around some as usual. Lew and Jake hauled 7 loads of hay to day and stacked it. Kib raked steady all day. I finished the alfalfa the first cutting about 11 O clock AM but in coming home with the machine Jakes mare kicked over the tongue and in struggling to get righted she laid on to the tongue so heavy that she broke the neck yoke right in two and I was glad of it too for I was afraid that some of us would get hurt.

Sat July 23 Nice this forenoon but rained quite a bit this afternoon. Lew and Jake with Kibs help hauled 7 loads of hay and stacked it. Kib finished raking the sloping piece next the road and then helped the boys haul hay. I shocked until I quit for the rain and was getting along nicely.

Sun July 24 Quite a nice day. It sprinkled quite a little bit up in the hills and a little here. Mother and Lew and I went up to Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch. We stopped at Charleys and him and Wilsie went with us. We had a nice ride and we tramped over the hills quite a bit and when we came home we brought old Kate down with us. We saw a great deal of very nice wheat and lots of alfalfa.

Mon July 25 A pretty fair day but it sprinkled a little. Lew and the boys hauled 6 loads of hay and finished up a big stack and begun another. I went up and finished shocking the piece next to the road after churning and it just kept me until noon. Afternoon I went to town and got a new neck yoke for the machine and after I came home I tinkered at it until dark.

Tues July 26 Nice but pretty hot but it didnt rain. The three boys hauled 8 loads of hay from the side hill piece near the road. I wrote a letter to Dave and then trimmed the blighted limbs off the pear trees and it looks bad for I had to cut the top mast all off. I have carried a good part of them to the brush pile so as to burn them soon.

Wed July 27 Cloudy and cool all day and rained quite a bit. The boys didnt haul any hay for the wind blew too hard this morning. They plowed out the corn towards the barn and it began to rain pretty soon so this afternoon they fixed harnesses. Kib and I ground 3 sickles and 2 scythes this forenoon and this afternoon I copied off Mr Dixons and my acct.

Thurs July 28 Cold and cloudy and threatening this morning and rained some a little afternoon. We hauled 2 loads of hay this morning which ended the first cutting. We hoed until noon then Lew and Kib worked at the corn and Jake and I mowed along the dykes and ditches on the windy hill place. Kib has gone to town to night to see his friends who start home tomorrow.
