Sat Aug 11 Quite a nice day to day [today]. The Neighbors began to roll their hay but it stunk so bad there was the dickens to pay and we finished stacking the barley to day [today] and Johny he went to Spring Canion [Canyon] they say and George went over to Charleys without much delay.

Sun Aug 12 Nice but hot. George and Lew and I went up to the Spring Canion [Canyon] Ranch to see what the big storm done. We found the troughs all full of sand and gravel. We cleaned them out and got them into running order again. We saw the horses and cattle they looked very well especially the cattle had a few places of the fence to fix and then came home. Found Charleys folks here. Had a visit with them and Nelly and Alice staid [stayed] to help Grandmother this week.

Mon Aug 13 Fine. We hauled 5 loads of wheat to day [today] and have I think 3 loads to haul tomorrow.

Tues Aug 14 Pretty fine but the wind blew pretty near a gale all day and it threatened rain a good deal too in the latter part of the day. John and I finished stacking the wheat and got the water started on to the wheat ground and hauled one load of manure and put in to the deep places on the 10 acre piece.

Thurs Aug 16 Nice day. John plowed between the apple tree rows to kill the weeds this forenoon and this afternoon he raked some and I mowed some. We made some covers for the horses at noon so it made a short afternoon.

Fri Aug 17 Nice warm day. Johny raked in the forenoon after shocking the piece in the corner this way from the house then raked until noon then went to town and he brought out a young man and I set him to work then Johny worked at raking. I mowed all day.

Sat Aug 18 Cloudy this morning but we had a pretty fair day. I hired a boy yesterday whose name is Bert Jolly he worked a little yesterday and to day [today] he shocked all day. Johny raked and shocked all day. I started the watr on to the barley place this morning and have attended to that and mowed this forenoon and this afternoon. I helped shock this afternoon and we got the hay all well shocked up.

Sun Aug 19 Quite nice generally and we had [att?] little sprinkle of rain about noon. Johny went to town and then to Mr Amos's and brought Aggie over and she is to be our girl this week. I irrigated all day by spells on the wheat and barley pieces and got along pretty well I think.

Tues Aug 21st Pretty nice weather but it was quite cloudy towards night. Johny raked most of the day the other men worked in the timber chain until noon and they shocked up the ballance [balance] of the 2nd cutting. Then they finished the day at shocking seed alfalfa. I finished the second cutting and then cut seed alfalfa the rest of the day and most of it was very nice too.

Wed Aug 22 Quite a good little day. We all worked at seed alfalfa and got most done.

Thurs Aug 23 Nice day this forenoon. Stewart Murphy and Jolly cut seed alfalfa on the timber claim. Johny plowed Pusley [Parsley?]. Fri Aug 24 Nice only terrible smoky the sun looks as red as a hyslop crabapple. The boys hauled second cutting hay all day. They put up 8 loads. I bunched up seed alfalfa and mowed seed alfalfa and shocked up the oats that I mowed yesterday.

Sat Aug 25 Very nice and the boys finished stacking the second cutting of alfalfa put 16 loads in the stack five of them they hauled to day [today] and Murphy has made a pretty nice shaped stack of it. I worked awhile this morning piling up what I cut yesterday and then mowed awhile and played out but I went up towards night and piled it up.

Sun Aug 26 Pretty to day [today]. We had lots of company to day [today]. I went over to Lews and took Aggie over home this morning then Lews folks came home with me. Found Charleys folks here and John Camerons folks and Mr Heaths folks and Reas's folks came a little before sunset. They had been up to Franks.

Mon Aug 27 Nice smoky day. The boys Murphy Bert and Johny hauled alfalfa seed hay. They got 12 loads and pretty much cleared the field except the timber claim. I done sundry odd jobs such as fixing places for stacking the seed alfalfa and oats mowing some by the ditch tinkering some at the sickles and getting some plums and crabs and taking them over for Charley to show at Cheyenne.

Our girl has come this afternoon.
