Fri Sept 7 It acted like rain a good deal and
about 3 O clock it began to rain and kept it
up until nearly night and most of the time
it rained very hard. I think that as much
as 2 inches of water fell if not more.
When we went up to the windy hill place to
shock oats the ditch up above the house had
about 20 inches of water running in it
and when we came down the ditch was
running over just above the bridge and in
lots of places it was an awful big rain.
Johny finished raking and bunching
the oats in the forenoon and in the
afternoon he shocked until stopped by the
rain. I finished cutting the wheat piece
this forenoon and this afternoon I shocked
oats till got drove off by the rain. Ett and
Mrs Evans came here to day [today] and are going
to stay all night on account of the rain.

Sat Sept 8 Cloudy and awful muddy
all day and will be muddy for several days.
Johny went to town and got some wire and staples
and done sundry othe chores. Mrs Harris was
here to day [today] and got 2 dollars worth of Crabapples and
plums. I fixed a pitchfork and made a coupling
pole for the old wagon and sowed up the long
tear in the big sheet.
