10th. Augt 1849 Raised Tobacco House near Granary this day, notched up by 2 Bookers & 2 Kits Mrs Colemans & Mrs McCullocks Kits Colo Smiths & Capt Fitzgeralds Booker very well done Bro Simpson & Boker both here — clear good day for our work —

11. we are grubing & cutting on Branch Halling gravel for walk & Hewing down Tobacco House & squaring Logs for Henrys house Clear & fine weather — Jane Gravelling walk before Door

13th Augt. Henry Heaving down Tobacco House Lila cutting on Johns Branch, & when done she is to Chop out cotton, & get out flax seed. Fed alse Jane & Ann began to Grub new ground on mountain adjoin =ing mountain field this morning for a start — clear & fair

14 worming & succoring & toping Tobacco Henry Hewing down Barn —

15. Treading out Mr. Neals wheat got out about 16 or 17 any rate I got 2½. trod cleaned & brot the fan home by Dark — Fed Toping Tobacco the Balance worming & succoring, clear & dry Day —

16. Fed gone to mill with nearly a Bus. corn 2½ wheat. Henry finishing toping for this weekover Toba Jane alse & ann gone to Grubing in & Fed when he gets backnew ground Lila & Jordan getting out flax seed & gath[er]ing Herd Grass seed etc.

17 Henry Hewing down Barn for sever= =al days. 4 Grubing in new ground gathering Lila Herds Grass seed Dry weather at this time

18 Same Grubing Henry gone to Capt Gilberts mill with 9½ Bushels corn borrowed of Mrs Hunt to be returned next spring. Lila & Jordan cutting & shrubing for corn 2 or 3 pretty showers to day went to Mrs Colemans & Rented out her Hillfield plantation etc.

1850 Novr 19th Halling up Corn yesterday & to day I have Just got from CH likely for Rain -

24th we have been getting up & Housing corn this week & not done getting where there was no wheat sewed Rained 2 days this week — John Coleman worked here this week making 1 week more one month in all Lila & Malissa & Clem has Blankets this winter Raining this evening

Novr 25. Give to Mr Fitzgerald & Fanny White Tom Perry we are Putting up our Greens & Halling wood etc clear fine day —— Capt Fitzgerald got fountain out of Jail in Montgomery CH

30 Finished our corn this morning Halling wood Fed Shoemaking Rained hard last night made about 120 or 130 Barrels in all warm weather about this time — Jordan gone to mill Expect to sendthis evening Henry

1st Decemr. 1850 clear in morning cloudy in evening I went to Mrs Colemans & Mrs Hunts —

==2nd Mr Owen came here to help about Houseoverseer Mr Tucker came to shingle it cloudy all day

3rd Both here shingling overseers House Henry Jointing shingles cloudy all day – Federick & alse Halling up stalks 2 days Balance Fanning out wheat & Buck wheat made 123 Bus. good wheat & 17 Bus. screan [tolled?] to be sent to Capt Gilberts mill is 6½ Bushels good wheat including Mr Neals, & nearly 1 Bus screan,

7th It has been raining & quite cool nearly all this week Thursday night Friday & Friday night it rained very hard indeed still cloudy & Raining Owen left yesterday evening — Began to strip Tobacco in middle Barn making up Farm Pen & shelters to day Building overseers House chimney about this time

1852 March 17th Great deal of our fencing I am afraid is down Some Is I have seen very disagreeable day indeed —

18. Halled up Stack Oats & fodder from mountain field & 2 Loads Leaves etc - striping Tobacco in new ground Barn, quite cool etc

19th. Plowing & malling till 12 oclock & then Henry bushing in Oats my my wife & Cate went to Doct Walkups picked up roots & Halled some in second years ground Turned very cold

20th Snowed last night & very cold this morning Henry Halled wood till 12 oclock then Fed Henry finishes sewing Oats. balance Cutting wood etc etc etc ——

22nd Henry gone to Mr Neals to Hall rails Fed malling alse etc Hilling - Lila Plowing Jordan gone to mill Fine weather, indeed — Finished Sewing Oats on Saturday last. Fannie W. F. came yesterday - weatherfordput there by cook in Jail

23. manuring plant Beds Henry gone to Capt. Gilberts Mill this morning 12 Bus. Grain 2 Barrels Corn & 2 Bushels wheat — Fed malling Sent 2 Plows McC to Yates shop

25 Yesterday we laid the worm of new ground fence put up part of the fence Henry halled some Rails & him & Fed malling - to day

25. Sewed Plaster malling fencing & Lila plowing by Brick yard a Beautifull day fine weather — Fannie White here & came down last Sunday

27th my wife Fannie W & Cate Jerry & Sallie all went to Mrs Hunt. Thunder cloud came up in evening & they all failed to get home We rolled Logs this day on account the Rain did not quite get done

28 cloudy & cool this morning

1853 Febr 10 Henry Jordan & Sandy Plowing Jacob malling malissa Picking [G?] Kitty fencing alse shelling corn fine weather,

11th Fencing Plowing malling & Halling wood, sent for my new wagon body Sent 2 Large cow skins & 1 kip skin to Mr E Lewis to carry to Doss s Tanyard to Tan at Green field, & we have also 2 large skin cow sent to Jefferson & Reeses Leesville

12 Malling & cutting wood to burn Plant Bed Plowing & Haling wood – fine weather

13 Fine day windy in evening & cooler

14th malling Fencing & Plowing this day quite cool this day —

15. my wife gone to Mrs Hunts to night Burnt & sewed Plant Bed above House & got done by night Jordan & sandy Plowing Raining at night a little & Hailing,

16 Striping tobacco in prize Barn Raining,-

17th Jacob & Lowry halling wood for Mr Neal Henry Fed & Sandy malling Balance fencing around Johns field, cleared off & fine morning not very cold,- my wife not got back yet —

18th Jacob & Fed malling 3 Plows running. Balance fencing, cloudy & like for falling weather I went to Capt Gilberts.-

19th Striping Tobacco in prize Barn Rained in morning & then Snowing till night disperate day very cold, indeed no wood

20th cleared off & fine morning –

21st went CH & striped Tobacco —

22nd Jacob gone to Farris Mill 2 Bus wheat forflour Balance all Halling leaves cloudy & like for Rain began to Rain about night & Rained all night

23rd Striped Tobacco in prize Barn etc etc

24th Fencing & malling alse Swingling flax very cold & windy —

18. Still Cold Sent for Doct Thompson for Kitty he did not come yesterday Sent again this morning19th Snow on the ground yet. Heavy frost. Tobacco Plants nearly all Kill –

19th Heavy frost this morning — I did go to Court & Come back same day Carried Report of Commdr of Division of Jer. McCullock Est. by Patrick Grasty & Dickenson

20 went to Store to day to Adams & Ward Finished Coltering over new ground about finished breaking up corn ground listing ps this way in fresh ground for Corn will begin to Plant corn this evening at old House place at Stony point,

21nd Expect to uncover & Pick Plant Bed above House this mooring, then planting Corn again at stony pint etc Harrowing & listing in fresh ground

22. went to Meeting Mr Mason not there,fine weather etc Kitty better, not quite done planting corn at Stony pint

23 went to see Capt Gilbert & also to Mrs Hunts to day rained Coming home Fanny here & Mr Fitzgerald - fine weather

24 Finished planting at Stony pint & began in fresh field Jordan complaing to day tho Harrowing for

25 Jordan Sick this morning Planting corn in fresh field between the Ditches Fed gone to Mill 6 Bus. Corn for meal 2 Bushels wheat for me —

26 Lent Mr Crews Henry Clay to go to mill Planted Pepperin Plant Bed& watermellons in Potatoe Patch etc etc fine weather warm —
