1853 Oct 17 We have been to Lynchg with a Load of wheat Sold it for 1.40 pr Bus. fired Tob Grubing etc etc 17th Firing Tobacco fixing fresh ground for Tobacco, Grubing etc clear weather

18. Mr Evans came at 12 Oclock. Firing Tobacco Mr Evans cutting Ditch for Ice House Fannie W. went with me to Lynchg

19th Began to Sew wheat in Third years ground Grubing Mr. Evans Ditching & alse & Kitty Federick firing Tobacco - back Garden clear fine weather, 20th Ditching at Ice house 21st Sewing wheat in Lot, 4½ in Third years Land & 3½ in Lot -

22 Ditching Halled up Load of CornHogs for Mr Evans left in evening

24th This morning Raining Hailing & Snowing. very disagreeable day Snow lay on ground Smartly lost Pieds Calf Halled 2 Loads wood in evening, Sent to Mill Saturday with wheat for flour DiggMy Sweet & Irish Potatoes not Dug yet,

Novr 6 Since the 24th Oct we have Dug the blind Ditch to Our Ice House Halled up & shucked out our mountain field Corn Mr Evans worked on ice House Ditch about 10 Days @3/9 pr day he is now when at work Cutting Ditch in fresh field @[2¢?] pr yd Cleaned out Ice pond yesterday & began again to sew wheat next to Johns springCorn Land we Cut & spayed 11 shoats lately, went to mill about 5 days ago. my wife & Cate gone to Mrs Hunts to day. Fine weather at this time

8 Fed shoemaking cutting Down & shucking Corn in Johns field. Sewed Branch land in wheat to day etc cloudy & likely for Rain, ——

1853 Novr 9th wrote to Bro. James, cleared off cold Fed shoemaking Fed fanning out wheat.

Novr 12 cloudy & like for Rain Sewing wheat in Johns field, sent Mr Evans meal home alse & malissa shrubing at mountain field, Fed shoemaking

17. jerry Stoped going toSchool after 1st week in Novr Finished shoemaking to day - 14th 15th & 16th Halling up Corn & Halling Out manure on wheat in Johns field,- Fallowed up & sewed Rye in Granary Lot & finished this evening Jordan Helping Mr Evans Ditch from 12 Oclock to day tomorrow expect to Plow up ps above Henrys house & sew it in wheat

19th Jordan has worked with Mr Evans days this week - to day we halled wood put in our Land Corn sewed wheat by Henrys House & I went to Vaughans for Lucy Ann in her case agst Richard Smith

21st I went to Court as a Juror & for Mr & Mrs McCullocks Estates stayed till Friday night Our Folks got wood cut & Grubed in new ground all this week Kate & Jacob went to to Mrs Thompsons to wedding

Decr 1st We Finished Our Corn to day I appraised Mr & Mrs McCullocks Est. Henry Halled Rocks for his Chimney Some cut & some Grubed etc

2nd Henry Halling up Stalks etc Jordan & Sandy Plowing up Cotton Patch for wheat Fed Fanning out our wheat. malissa Picked Cotton out of Patch On Monday 28th we Killed 12 of our Hogs weighing 1077 - 3rd made shelters -

3rd Sewed Cotton Patch in wheat, 1 Bus. to sew sewed some in Johnsons field. Henry went to Farris’s Mill, 5. Bus. wheat for flour, 3 Bus screan for Horses & 7 Bushels Corn for meal.

1855 April 1st A Fine clear day Windy Cate got her chin & neck burnt the past week & to day Kate & Jacob from Home Jacob gone to green field & Kate to JasM Harris ––

6th Finished striping Tobacco & Bulk down all my Lugs nearly or quite Plowing for Corn at 12 Oclock Beautiful Rain moderate weather —

9 Easter Holliday cloudy & like for Rain Nearly half done Hilling Our new ground Got a good Deal of Corn Land to break up yet,- Finished Breaking our Corn Land 1855

14 Finished Sewing Oats at Mr Neals yesterday Plowed up a ps for corn & pt of Garden for him Plowed on Branch & Patches to day Planted Irish Potatoe seed Come from Fannies, cloudy & like for Rain Mr Evans has finished Ditching Mr Mullens Set up 2 Hhds — & we are Hilling in new ground Fed Coltered nearly ½ day for Jacob ———————

16 Jacob & myself went to Court Plowing fresh ground for Corn & Tobacco Hilling & Coltering in new ground fine day —

17 Same work & finished Coltering new ground Halling rails for Mr Crews Fed Picked leaves off Plant above House Beding up & listing Branch & bottoms for corn

18 Finished Bedding & listing in evening & went to Laying off for corn Hilling in new ground not quite done

19th Began to Plant Corn laying off etc Fine warm weather yesterday we altered marked etcHogsour Calves some days ago Jacob Laying off to day - Sandy in House

1855 Augt 11th Lila taken sick about 9 or 10 oclock in night, of this day — child a Girl Born to night

13th Toping Tobacco this morning 3 hands Balance worming & Hilling up fresh ground above house – –

14th worming & succoring Tobacco Henry halled up ps for Granary & then got up a load of apples from stony pint Rained this evening, ground very wet & as seasonable for Corn Turnips etc as ever I saw worming Tobacco at stony pint etc.

15 Rained in evening Henry Raised Granary Shed Jesse Arnold not come yet from hunting Jenny Lind Sewed Turnips over again machine come in evening Mr Evans begun to Ditch Henry arnold began to get shingles

16th in morning of Blocks sawed in wood Beeting apples for Vinegar etc –– worming new ground Tobacco but not done stop to attend to machine––

17 Finished machining wheat about 12 ocl Jesse Arnold not come yet - fine weather Sent machine home in evening & went to worming & succoring new ground

18th Killed Lamb worming & succoring Tobacco Jesse arnold Came last night Friday with Jenny Lind, & both of them will work ½ day to day Saturday

20 wormed Toped & succored Tobacco over Mr Evans Came again to day to Ditch

21st H. & J arnold getting shingles this morning

22 H & J A getting shingles Henry & Sandy etc Sawing shingles Blocks Fed Cutting pla[nk?] for barn Balance Grubing cloudy & damp & I am unwelle at this time — Bettie Hunt & children are here at this time

23rd Rained last evening & night weather warm Covering Plant Beds Halling up Shingles

24th worming & succoring Tobacco till 10 Oclock & went to Grubbing & cutting Mrs Mary Moseley Died wednesday evening 22nd day of augt & buried at Mr Jno D Hunts on Friday 24th Aug 1855

25 Halling Log to Mill Yates saw mill this morning waggon & Cart

Sept 2nd went to association at Sandy Creek MH near Milton, this week, We were while I was gone Ditching toping worming & succoring Tobacco & Shrubing Corn Land

3rd Toping worming & succoring Tobacco this morning & then to pulling fodder Jerry is Sick Dr Tho mpson been to see him Twice & Johnson 2 times & me once, - Sent to mill 8 bushels Corn for meal & get 2 Bags 4 Bus. there ground last week Henry got Shingles one or 2 days

13th From the 1st of this month we have been attending to Tobacco pulling fodder Cutting Tops Mr Evans Ditching etc etc I went over to Bolletot school gone 4 days don't like the Country at all Jacob here a day or Two ago to see us & get his cloth to make his winter clothes James M Fitzgerald gone to Springs we are gathering in Our Blades Stacking etc etc worming & succoring Tobacco

24th Cutting Tobacco last week part of week, stacked all our Blade fodder wormed & succored over tobacco I went to meeting at Strait Stone till wednesday & then I was taken sick & have been ever since Mr Fitzgerald has returned Springs no better from
