18 Aug 1847 Catharine Spiller started to Pine_ =ville to Miss L Wilson’s School at Pineville Academy. Board at Mr & Mrs Clark @ $7 pr month $10 for Tuition of 5 months - Board & Tuition $9 pr month - fine weather

23rd Too wet to Thrash wet. Succoring & worming & Topping Tobacco on Branches here & at Johns

25 Rained all day yesterday yet cloudy succoringworming& topingground etcnew Jacob P Graves starts to Mr. Waddel to school @ not quite $1 pr. month for the time he goes.

27 Thrashed out our wheat

30 Cloudy & foggy this morning succoring & topping Tobacco this morning Rained very hard Saturday evening —

31 Talton & Henry put up chimney to House for Jane. began Monday 29 & worked 2½ days & went Home sick

Sep 1st Pulling fodder in fresh ground & cutting Buck Wheat there yesterday alse & Fed went to Mr Hunt to pay for Epp & Allen helping me to thrash our wheat —

2 Pulling Fodder in big field to day Tying up Blade fodder etc etc Ann & Jane in House. Henry at Mr. LewisRaising barn

3 Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to mill weather good

17 Been succoring Tobacco & Finished Pulling Fodder 15th now stacking

1847 Dec. 16th Striping Tobacco - this morning. sent Colo Dickinson for toll wheat for machining 5 Bushels white wheat. Made 99½ Bushels began to snow in the evening & continued till sometime in the might. Snow 8 or 9 Inches Deep where it has not melted

17th striping Tobacco in middle barn expect to finished by 11 oclock - to day weather not very cold, still cloudy

21. began to snow again last night about 11 oclock & snowing yet this morning. about 3 or 4 Inches Deep this morning. no Tobacco down doing but little

22nd Snow from 6 to 8 Inch Deep Swingling flax shoemaking & spining.

24 Shoemaking & spining shelling corn Started Henry & Jacob after Catharine Spiller at Mrs Clarks, come home in night

25. Christmas day cold & cloudy

26. cold etc fun day —

27. Still cold & cloudy went to Mr Lewis’s & Mrs Smith & Mrs Hunts

28. Snowed a little last night but this morning clear & Cold — ReC from Mr. Strickland, Misses Albrights Shernerd etc agent $136 for Hire of Joe & John 1847 tho this Bond was only for $126 they pd. us more because they pd others more, & I this day pd the $136 to Mrs Coleman at Mrs Hunts ——etc——yesterday—

30 Killed Hogs this morning Sent Fed to shop with Cart alse & Ann shrubbing for corn -

31st Cloudy & Rainy taking down Barn of Tobacconew ground

1848 March 25th Sewing Oats & this morning planted Irish Potatoes, sewed 10 Bus. to this day

27 Sewed clover seed this day Sewing Oats & Hilling new ground weather warm & cloudy

28. Sewing Oats 4 horses, cloudy & warm, took 1 House Tobacco down to day to prize, - , Halled up one stack Oats more to sew. -- Danl> Hunt got Doct White to cut his lip about 4 weeks ago last Monday

29 A Fine morning sewing Oats & Cleaning up new ground, last night about 10 Oclock Malissa bornMalissa's child being 10 she has had, lost 2 Nicy & Morris

30 Treading Oats this evening to seed. Sewed 30 Bushels, alse Raking new ground Fed gone to mill 10½ Bushels corn Planted Onions Beets & Salsify yesterday

31. Sewing Oats & cleaning up new ground

April 1 Sewing Oats & Cleaning up Do weather cool & clear - in evening Rained a little this morning —

2nd Clear & cool - 3. Clear & cool Sewing Oats Collering & Raking groundbig new plowed up Garden

4 Finished sewing Oats sewed upward of 40 Bushels this year Collering etc -Sewed flax seed to day

5 Plowing up Sweet Potatoe Patch & Plowing for corn & coltering.

6- Coltering & Plowing for corn

7. Finished Hilling little new ground

1848 Nov. 2 Fed shoemaking made 3 pr alse pulling off corn at stack & feeding Hogs with slops

3 Henry Paid Mrs Neal $2 sent by me McC from Mr gone to mill Whites 5 Bus corn 1 Bus wheat for himself & 1 Large Hart log for Railing 2½ by 3 Inches Very large frost this morning Shucking corn to day alse & Jordan

4 Finished sewing wheat this day & bushing sewed about 28 or 29 Bushels - Housed 6 or 7 Barrels corn more began to Rain to day & this night Raining nearly all night wind Blows very hard, Fed shoemaking, -

5 Raining this morning & quite cool wind from N West.

6 Killed little Beef, Fed shoemaking Laying dining Room floor

7 Do Do & shucking —

8. Killed 3 Hogs put up first & Henry went to saw & Grist mill, Doct Whites 3 Bus. Grain & 1 Large Log for paling, 3 Lengths Got one Turnip off branch the largest I ever saw. weighs 7 lbs & 26 Inches in circumference Cool frosty mornings Finishing shucking Corn & Housing this day -

9 Went to saw mill again 1 Large Log for Paling 2 lengths pulling up Greens & apples this day -

10. gone to saw mill 1 Log for Railing Fed shoemaking alse at kettle began to Snow a little

11 Halling Rails shoemaking spining etc etc likely to snow or Rain

1848 Novr 14 been Rain’g for 2 or 3 days. Faning out wheat yesterday & to day. Jane spining alse at Kettle still. cloudy & like for Rain,-

15th Went after Rent corn & fodder at Long Hill, -

16 sent Henry to saw mill after Timber etc. Brot it home & 1 Bag meal Began to cut Big growth in little new groundin new ground yesterday

17 Cutting again Henry gone to Cotton Jin 389 lbs Seed Cotton Sent.

20 making cow pen fence this morning pulling up Irish Potatoes etc. Fanning out wheat, clear & cool large frost

21 started to Lynchg with 37.40 Bus. wheat sold for ’90 - got back on Friday the 24th, while we were gone they Grubed till Friday Rainy day spun & shoemaked

25th Halling Rails Fanning out wheat cleaning out stables etc etc etc.

30. We have been grubing cutting some in little new ground & Halling Logs for Henry House This day making cow shelter in Lot Halling leaves & laying foundation of House for steers weather cloudy & not much Rain yet, Bot in all this year 22½ Barrels of Corn

Dec. 4 waggon House blowed down the 2nd Inst. Grubing for several days 4 hands Henry cutting Post & fork etc for waggon & Cart shelter

7- Cloudy & likely for Rain taking down middle House Tobacco
