1849 Feby 9th cleared off & weather moderate malling card wood out of new ground
10 clear & a fine day moderate
11 cloudy & like for Rain or snow malling & Plowing, for corn. alsecorn Landshrubing
17. Have been malling in new ground & Plowing ½ this day since 11th. Halling wood leaves Hay to granary for seed, & Halled up Oats etc. yesterday & to day burnt Plant Bed in big new ground & sewed & covered it this day
18. This morning snowing weather cold Had 5 lambs & lost 3 to this day -
20 went to Court yesterday 19. qualified as Exec. to Mr Jere McCullocks will weather cold & Clear snow 3 or 4 Inchesdeep shoemaking making swingling flax spining & making Bars etc etc to day sowing clover seed etc swingling fax & spining — cloudy & like for snow
22 Snowed again Monday evening & this morning again snow about 4 Inches deep yesterday & to day striping Tobacco in new ground barn got out our seed Oats yesterday, 3 stacks single
23 Finished new ground barn 12 oclock taking some down in prize barn & shelling corn still cloudy, snow melting
24 striping Tobacco in Prize barn weather moderate snow melting my wife & Cate & Jerry gone to Mrs McCullock

1849 March 14th cloudy & Rainy this day striping Tobacco & trying to finish, - warm wet weather, Finished striping Tobacco this evening
15th Rained nearly all night cloudy damp weather & moderate. More cloudy weather this past winter & march up to day than I ever saw. Decemr. was cloudy damp moderate weather. Janry was cold & some snow. Feby windy cold weather March has been wet all the time, no Oats sewed yet in this neighborhood Fencing corn field fence to day & halling wood with waggon,- Finished fence -
16 Still cloudy & damp Plowing & began to colter in new ground this day -
17 Coltering in little new ground & one waynearly done Plowing for corn alse shrubing for corn Henry fixing garden etc helping me weather foggy in morning & then cleared off pretty day again which makes 2 this month
18 Pretty day & went to Bro. Stones toPittsyacourt to get Mrs Cullocks & Mrs Colemans Papers
19 went to court. clear pretty day —
20 Fanning out Oats & began to sew oats this morning, carried 4 Bushels to stony pint to day Fed & alse at new ground - - & Jordan clouded up & began to Rain about 11 Oclock Lila Plowing for corn at home X Pink had a cow calf Sunday 18th last
21 Rained very yesterday evening & last night cleared off & Cool to day prizing Lugs & cleaning up new ground

15 very cool & dry windy weather -
16th Every thing Killed by frost I expect this morning, very cool, Laying off to PlantCorn Hilling & Harrowing beds on bottoms,
17. cloudy & cool all natures in mourning every thing Killed by Cold & frost. weather moderated a little, began to Plant Corn this side branch = finished laying off one way Collard Plants & flax very much Killed by frost
18 Planting Corn Just below House & on Bottoms to day - cloudy & like for Rain at this This morning Rain Hail and snowed a little took Bacondown& Packed up 35 middlings 35 Hams & 31 shoulders & some ps very cold & windy weather – Planting all drill corn to day verycold windy day Finished Planting Corn this evening
19. Cold & windy morning, Henry Jane & alse gone to Mrs Colemans to Plant Corn Jordan going to mill 1 Bus. Fed Halling manure & wood & Hilling Ann Hilling Lila breaking Tobacco Lot on Branch My wife & Fanny W. went to Mr Jno D Hunt yesterday about his [Caty?] or [Settoe?] etc etc Henry Jane & Alse went to Mrs Colemans to Plant Corn
20 Smart frost every thing like vegetation Seems to stop at the cold windy dry weather tho the weather seems to be rather moderating

1849 aprl 20 Henry going to mill with a large Log for Palings & 10 Bushels corn for meal - Hilling & Coltering in new ground Lila breaking lot on Branch —— got the meal & no Paling. 2 Large Logs at Millers mill for Palings
21st Hilling new ground, Broke up Lot on Branch, Henry gone to Mrs Colemans to Plant Corn or lay off the ground The 19 or 20th Henry Jane & Alse was there helping to Plant Corn-- very cool indeed & looks like Winter weather very dry & some times windy -
22 Weather still cool tho moderated a little Flies are eating Tobacco plants. a little cloudy to day & last night
23. clear moderate weather dry & windy & a bad time on Stock, Buds all Killed & wheat & collard Plants Bit etc etc. Hilling & Coltering Henry gone to shop with Horses to shoe etc Written 3 letters 1 Colo Smith about by Lug Hhd Tobacco & the articles for Mrs. McCullocks family, one to Mr Bagby for one sack sate 10 lbs steel 1 Bale Cotton one letter to Danl for a Bonnet for Fanny White & sent ½ Doll. for Sally a pr of Bl[ac]k [no. ?] shoes — about 5 oclock
24 This morning Henry gone to Lynchg. started with Lugs Hhd, Hilling in big new ground began to Rain about 12 oclock this day In evening Alse shelling corn Jane spining. Lila Ann & Fed prizing Tobacco —
25 Rained moderately all night. monstrous good Rain weather moderate taking down all our good Tobacco this morning prizing & Packing in Hhd & Bulking good fine weather in deed very good — Raining nearly all day

26th Aprl 1849 Raining again this morning. seasonable weather, prizing Tobacco shelling Corn & spining this morning Went to Hilling about 9½ oclock to day Henry returned fromLynchg hour or two Sun in evening gone nearly 3 days good trip
27 Rained nearly all night, prizing good Tobacco this morning uncovering Plant Beds piling up manure etc etc etc

May 1st Went to shop again this morning - Fixed Pea Patch & square for greens myself Henry fixing scarce crows ann & alse Hilling Coltering in new ground Jane & Lila & Henry Beding Finished Beding second yrs Land for Tobacco second yrs Land Fine weather every thing mends (like vegetation
2nd Henry started to Lynchg again this morning with fine Hhd Tobacco all hands Hilling in new ground. cloudy & like for Rain cleared off about night - Planted Greens square

4. prizing Tobacco & Planted Peas & Corn & Simblings Hilling in new ground, fine weather a little cool. Henry returned from 2 or 3 hours sun this evening.
