23 Halling out manure on Turnip Patch Finished Hilling new ground & second yrs Land & Hilling up Lots = Planted snaps on Hill last Saturday - Weather clear & dry My wife & children gone to Mrs Hunts to see the Charlotte Poeple etc.

24 Hilling up Branch Tobacco & also ^newlot Stacking Oats this morning - clear & fair Catharine S. starts to Mrs Walkups school at $1½ pr month say for every 20th days ^goesshe

25. Raining this morning began Just before day then Rfull for it. very much needed. Spining & shelling Corn Mr Myers here nearly finished working with hay yesterday both lots Stacked Our Oats yesterday light Crop

21 Rained another shower last evening Toped over our Tobacco yesterday & wormed it over Thinning corn last evening & this morning, sent for waggon at shop Plowing Turnip Patch & Part of Pea Patch on Branch - cloudy like^Rain for

27 ^{Halling Logs for Barn & shrubing for corn} began to clean up on Johns branch This morning alse ann, Lila cutting down beans, yesterday we Harrowed our cotton & finished putting little dirt to our Lot Tobacco Halling Logs & shrubing in fresh ground Fed & Jane cloudy & like for rain

28. Raining a little this morning, worming Lots this morning - Raining finely to day — cleaning up on Johns branch. Lila alse & ann - Jordan & Lowry choping in corn

29th went to Mr McCullocks funeral to day pd Lewis $5 Rec^d Rob^l for 1 pr old [?eg] wheels

30. Cutting Logs & Halling for Barn, & cleaning up on Johns Branch, - fine weather,

10th. Augt 1849 Raised Tobacco House near Granary this day, notched up by 2 Bookers & 2 Kits Mrs Colemans & Mrs McCullocks Kits Colo Smiths & Cap^t Fitzgeralds Booker very well done Bro Simpson & Boker both here — clear good day for our work —

11. we are grubing & cutting on Branch Halling gravel for walk & Hewing down Tobacco House & squaring Logs for Henrys house Clear & fine weather — Jane Gravelling walk before Door

13th Augt. Henry Heaving down Tobacco House Lila cutting on Johns Branch, & when done she is to Chop out cotton, & get out flax seed. Fed alse Jane & Ann began to Grub new ground on mountain adjoin =ing mountain field this morning for a start — clear & fair

14 worming & succoring & toping Tobacco Henry Hewing down Barn —

15. Treading out Mr. Neals wheat got out about 16 or 17 any rate I got 2½. trod cleaned & brot the fan home by Dark — Fed Toping Tobacco the Balance worming & succoring, clear & dry Day —

16. Fed gone to mill with nearly a Bus. corn 2½ wheat. Henry finishing toping ^{for this week}over Toba Jane alse & ann gone to Grubing in ^{& Fed when he gets back}new ground Lila & Jordan getting out flax seed & gath[er]ing Herd Grass seed etc.

17 Henry Hewing down Barn for sever= =al days. 4 Grubing in new ground ^gathering Lila Herds Grass seed Dry weather at this time

18 Same Grubing Henry gone to Capt Gilberts mill with 9½ Bushels corn borrowed of Mrs Hunt to be returned next spring. Lila & Jordan cutting & shrubing for corn 2 or 3 pretty showers to day went to Mrs Colemans & Rented out her Hillfield plantation etc.

30th & 31st Augt. worming & succoring Tobacco Machine came here 31st from Mr Lewis’s about 11 oclock & by the time we got a start it commenced Raining, & Rained a good shower we carried the wheat with straw after we discover=ed that it was going to be wet we then wound up & it Rained sure enough till in^nightthe

1st Sept. ground very wet & the machine doing nothing spining etc etc — Began to machine wheat between 1 & 2 oclock in evening till night put up 4 Stacks straw Kit & Mr. Lewis 3 hands come ——

2 Fannie W. & Cate went to Greenfield Jerry Better than he has been for several days

3. began again to Thrash wheat fine day Kit Mr Lewis s 3 Hands & 2 from Mrs Hunts came & we finished & carried the machine to James Whiteheads got done about night 1½ days Thrashing Our crop wheat

4 alse & Ann gone to Mrs Coleman to Pull fodder & its Turned out to be cloudy & a little rainy, succoring & worming Tobacco Henry gone to Mrs Hunt after 10½ Bushels corn making 4 Bbls lent me — Fanned out some wheat to make flour this morning — alse & ann returned at 12

5. worming & succoring & toping Tobacco on Branch & Lot. Henry gone to Glenns Mill 10 Bus. wheat for flour 5½ Bus. corn for meal. Turned cooler. I am going to Mrs McCullocks & Riceville to day —

6 Pulling Blade fodder after morning all hands my wife went to Mrs Colemans

7 alse gone to Mrs Colemans to Pull fodder worming & succoring Tobacco in new ground Fair & cool this morning ⅓ done Pulling^fodder Mr Myers & Henry getting slabs, Tying up fodder This evening.

8th Sept 1849 Finished succoring Tobacco & tying up all fodder pulled. Riving Boards for Barn

9th clear fair day for meeting

10th Pulling fodder Riving boards for Barn & finished - clear & fair day—

11th Pulling fodder & gathering to stack Halling up Boards etc etc. etc. — alse gone to Mrs Colemans to pull fodder We are trying to finish Pulling our fodder^{and done it}today

12 Tying up all day our Blades & Covering Tobacco House. cloudy nearly all day

Mr Myers framing up Tobacco House & cutting house doors & make shutters etc etc

13 Gathering fodder together to stack Tying up some halling worming & succoring Tob cloudy this morning ——————

14 Worming & succoring Tobacco Fanning out a Load of wheat

15 worming & succoring Tobacco, stacking fodder have put up 6 stacks to this morning 10 stacks put up in all this night Double stacks

17 worming & succoring big second yrs ground Then for cutting our top fodder have not cut a plant of tobacco yet - fair & dry Fanny W commenced weaving counterpanes this morning

18 waggon started to Lynchg with 35 or Forty Bushels wheat Mrs McCullocks with something like 60, say 40 & 62 meaured put up 14 stacks fodder began yesterday to cut our tops at again to day

19 Began to cut big second yrs^Tobaccoground & cut stacks did not quite get over that p^s

20 This morning cool & Raining cleaning out ^barnprize Halling away chaff etc etc etc & Tobacco [sh?] Halled up 1 Load corn cut some tops & Faned

19th Still raining, shoemaking for Cate making brooms & spining ———

22nd cleared off & I went to Court Spining shoemaking & firing tobacco

23rd clear & fair shoemaking spining ground too wet to plow yet firing 2 Barns^Tobacco put up our Fattening Hogs or Pigs as they are small. 19 or 21 in number — Went to Mr Hunts [unclear] & Mrs Hunts etc

24 clear & fair, Plowing for wheat cutting down corn Fed Halling wood firing Tobacco Killed mutton.

25. Sewing wheat etc etc On Hill Side by middle barn in big field -

26 Halling up corn & seeding wheat wrote to Mr E. D Johns and Rob^t Harris about money Due Estate of Jer. McCullock Decs^d this day sent Letters to both of them also to Mrs Mary P McCullock widow of Ja^s McCullock Hawk Point P.O. Lincoln cty MO & to Mr Francis McCullock on same subject

27 Digging Potatoes till 12 oclock the 2 Plows went to Plowing for wheat & got up 3 Loads corn & put stack fodder in House —

28 prayer meeting warm weather

29 Rained all night spining ^{Mr Lewis spayed 7 hogs for me -} Shoemaking & firing Tobacco -

30. Fair & windy shoemaking senting Henry alse & ann to shop after Plows & wheel Expect to Hall up leaves to day spining.
