1850 Oct 23 Hanging Our last Tobacco John came this morning & I sent him to Mr Hodnetts to take Federicks place, — I am to give Lester Coleman $5. or $6. a monthfor John Mr Lewis taken sick the 17th of this month had 2 Docts Thompson & Walkup with him & lingered 10 days & Died with Gravel — On the 27th at one Oclock in night, he Died without moving his hand or foot —

28th Mr Lewis Buried this day a little after 12 oclock we are sewing wheat & Harry is at work on Henrys House & overseersHenry is Halling wood, weather clear & cool we have gathered about 20 Bbls corn Out of fresh field —————

29. Sewing wheat, fixing to raise Houses for & Henryoverseer

30. Sewing wheat & finished fresh ground Sewed 7½ Bus there this morning Raised Houses & sewing wheat choping around stumps

31. Digging Sweet Potatoes at work on Houses Beautiful Weather about this time —

Novr 6th Harry still here Fed shoemaking 3 Plows Sewing wheat, alse & chaps choping down corn in Tobacco Lot by Top stack to sew, wheat there weather fair & mild Henry gone to Mrs Colemans to Help raise corn house

=7th novr. Sent Henry to mill this morning 4 Bus. corn, & get my own sheeting Plank there & also wrote an order for $1.50 worth cheap sheeting Plank. Fed shoemaking, 3 Plows Sewing wheat alse getting out Buck wheat Harry laying upper floor for overseers House cloudy & like for Rain this morning

11. John Coleman worked at Colo. Smiths 2 weeks & 4th days & 2 days for me making 3 weeks in all, Fed shoemaking been sawing shingle Blocks to day Lila & Jane spining. alse raking leaves etc etc.

1850 Novr 19th Halling up Corn yesterday & to day I have Just got from CH likely for Rain -

24th we have been getting up & Housing corn this week & not done getting where there was no wheat sewed Rained 2 days this week — John Coleman worked here this week making 1 week more one month in all Lila & Malissa & Clem has Blankets this winter Raining this evening

Novr 25. Give to Mr Fitzgerald & Fanny White Tom Perry we are Putting up our Greens & Halling wood etc clear fine day —— Capt Fitzgerald got fountain out of Jail in Montgomery CH

30 Finished our corn this morning Halling wood Fed Shoemaking Rained hard last night made about 120 or 130 Barrels in all warm weather about this time — Jordan gone to mill Expect to sendthis evening Henry

1st Decemr. 1850 clear in morning cloudy in evening I went to Mrs Colemans & Mrs Hunts —

==2nd Mr Owen came here to help about Houseoverseer Mr Tucker came to shingle it cloudy all day

3rd Both here shingling overseers House Henry Jointing shingles cloudy all day – Federick & alse Halling up stalks 2 days Balance Fanning out wheat & Buck wheat made 123 Bus. good wheat & 17 Bus. screan [tolled?] to be sent to Capt Gilberts mill is 6½ Bushels good wheat including Mr Neals, & nearly 1 Bus screan,

7th It has been raining & quite cool nearly all this week Thursday night Friday & Friday night it rained very hard indeed still cloudy & Raining Owen left yesterday evening — Began to strip Tobacco in middle Barn making up Farm Pen & shelters to day Building overseers House chimney about this time

1851 Feby 1st let Mr James P Lewis have 1 Plank 14 feet Long 12 Inches square Edged ^wide & 2 Do Bark Edged 17. Inches wide & 11 feet Long to make negro man Isaacs coffin who Died this morning

Feby 3rd Raining this morning striped Tobacco awhile & then we halled leaves all day after weather more moderate had 4 or 5 very cold days 6thLambs to this day lost only one —

6th cutting in new ground all hands yesterday or day before Halled shucks Fodder & Oats beautifull weather to day ——

7th Plowing in fresh field. Jane & alse in new & childrenground Henry overseer Fed & myself went to Raise school House

8th Henry gone to Mr Parham Lewis s to Roll Logs Fed & overseer gone to school House Jane alse & Jordan gone to new ground.— Fine weather weather warm ———

9th Went to Meeting tolerable good day

10. Raining a little, taking down Tobacco & striping in middle Barn — Rainy evening F.WF. & Cate gone with her homethis morning Weather warm Jacob gone to bring horse home Made John D Hunt a Deed for Land near him JW Odaniel here cleaning & fixing Turner clock for which I gave him $1 - Raining hard took down all our Tobacco to strip

13th Plowing & malling, began to mall yesterday yesterday I went to Mrs McCullocks set up 2 Hhd & went to Chalk Level

14th Fed gone to mill 1 Bbl Corn 1 Bbl wheat we are striping Tobacco in middle Barn. Bets Bull calf came 13th- 10 Lambs to this time ^alivelost 6 Raining this morning The 11th I went to finish school house card Fed with Did not finish & give [Ditchie?] Jacob 9¢ Grasty 9¢ & Hendrick 1/6 making 50¢ in all to finish chimny 12th

15 Rained striping Tobacco Halled out chaff

16 Miss E McCullocks funeral & Burial

17th I went to Court - cold day our folks Plowing 1 Horse Balance in new ground

18th Halling wood with Cart till 12 oclock malling in new ground fine weather

19th malling Lila Plowing - Burning Brush etc alse & Jordan cleaning up in mountain field

20 Halling wood waggon & Cart with waggon myself - Henry gone to John Hunts to Roll logs Balance malling etc etc

21st Raining this morning striping Tobacco in prize Barn trying to done there to day

22 Rained tremendous hard last evening finished striping in prize Barn cleared off in night Sent to Mill 10 Bushels wheat for flour 1 Turn sold overseer for flour & ½ Barrel Corn for overseer also

23rd Moderate weather, malling & sh[r]ubing mountain field Jane sick been complaining for several days

24 malling shrubing & Plowing for corn

26th Jane got out Jane & Lila Plowing Balance Cutting old Logs put Top on Fresh ground Barn

27 Rolled Logs had 2 companies nearly finished, had a fine day clear & warm

28 sent Henry to Mrs Colemans to Roll Logs Jane & Lila Plowing at stony point Balance cleaning out fence Row in new ground Still moderate weather warm etc

March 1st Overseer gone to Capt Fitzgeralds quarters to Roll Logs making new ground fence, ground very wet Henry halling out wood & rails round new ground & to Plant Bed near to it weather cool Winter gone & only one snow the 1st Jany 1 in the whole winter of 1850 & 51

March 2nd tolerable day for beginning of spring my wife Jacob Jerry & Sally gone to Mrs Colemans Cate has been at Mr Fitzgeralds about 3 weeks weeks next monday —

March 3rd Henry gone to Mrs Hunts to Roll Logs Fed gone to mill 1½ Bbls corn ½ Bbl wheat for chop, Plowing at stony Point. Fair moderate weather

1851 March 4th Plowing in Fresh field sett ½ Our Logs Heaps on fire & we had work with the fire in & all over that part where had set the Heaps fire fine weather windy day

5 Finished plowing fresh field & gone to Mount[ain] field this evening, Halling Rails at new ground cutting Logs in new ground etc etc

6th March Plowing with 2 Plows in the mountain field Fed & alse halled up oats straw shucks & 1 Load Leaves in Stables overseer Set up Hhd alseJane cutting in new ground Barn Logs Jordan & Lowry burning Brush etc

7th Rained a little yesterday & all last night & hard to day striping Tobacco in new Barn Sewed Over Our Plant Beds about this

9. went to Harmony Powerfull freshit[freshet] & MrPlunket not at on Saturday-meeting

10. Set Our Logs Heaps on fire, Halling wood,

11 Treading Out Oats Halling Rails at Overseers House etc Burning up Log heaps Fair & fine weather for time year

12 working on Road Lila & Jane cutting Barn alse Jordan & Lowry cleaning up in new ground fine day -

13th Began to Sew Oats in Johns field - Began to prize Lugs Lila Kitty & Lowry & overseer Beautifull day for prizing &

14 Sewing Oats, halling out wood & Rails out of new ground, Broke Hester Ann & Celam to Plow this week Both Plow very well most done prizing our Lug Hhd this day

15th Same work as on the 14th fine weather

16th Rained hard last night my wife gone to Mrs Hunts Sent for Cate who has been at Mr Fitzgeralds five weeks & in fact has not been at home much since last Christmas, fine warm days fair Sewed 11 Bushels this day.
