1852 March 3rd Plowing for corn & yes= =turday sewed 1½ Bus Oats by clover lott. Fed & Henry malling - Sunday Jordan & Lila Plowing - alse Kitty etc fencing Sent to Mr Hodnetts to day to Raise barn

4th Plowed till 12 oclock. Henry fixing Garden Federick malling - began to Rain a little after 12 oclock, shelled corn

5th Striped Tobacco at prize Barn, & took down middle Barn,- did not Rain

6th Rained nearly all night striping in Middle Barn, to day. Moderate, trod out oats Thursday

7. went to Mrs Hunts all of us, fine day -

8. Striped Tobacco & finished middle Barn Henry went to mill with waggon & got 2 Turns mill & Hhds staves etc —

9. Took down all our Lugs that's striped moved all Our Tobacco from mountain field Barn, Plowing for Oats took down new ground Barn of Tobacco very warm day —

10th. Sent Henry to Mrs Hunts for Jerrys Young Balance packing Lugs. Faning out Oats fencing cleaning out stables etc etc Began to sew Oats this day in earnest, a little cooler wind from North

13 Sewed about 20 Bushels Oats to this day -- we are this morning treading out Oats,- & sewing & Halling wood alse Kitty etc working in Garden warm weather Sent Henry a few days ago to Mrs Hunts for a Heifer yearling She gave Jerry ———

16 went to Court yesterday a fine day Planted Irish Potatoe Patch by springs Began to Hill yesterday in fresh ground Hilling to day 4 hands with alse Fed malling Henry Coltering in fresh ground, commencing Raining about dark this night & quite still

17th Rained hard last night & still continues this morning & wind began to blow at 12 Ocl in night & this morning I assure you there is tremendous wind & Rain from N.E. Tops of middle Barn Blown off Side striping Tobacco in prize Barn –

1852 Sept 1st Engaged Bud Faris to Rive & draw shingles & find himself at Two Dollars a Thousand to be paid in wheat & Vinegar or something else.

2nd Went to Colo Dickensons Chalk Level for Mrs McCullock & to CH for Capt Fitzgerald & myself etc fine Day ———

3rd worming & succoring Tobacco & cut 23 stacks out of new ground that was firing

4th worming Lot Tobacco & finished & went in fresh ground Jordan Lowry & claiborne, Fed alse Sandy & Kitty sawing from 10 OC till night Henry went to Raise Barn at Doct Walkups Lila & Jordan Plowing at mountain field Something bit Pompeys fore Leg Swelled very much Stoped him @ 1 OC put Pain Killer on it & at Bathed it in mullin cloudy all night Rained & also day& [P?] top etc

5th fair & clear quite cool this morning Pompeys Leg Better 7th got Better & Kate got weddingto F Holys

9th Rain Rain, Rain, nearly every day & we have a good deal of fodder on the ground & we have cut about four Hundred stacks in new ground & to day Rained nearly all dayspining making Baskets etc etc

10th Spining Basket Making & mending Cates shoes Rained all night last night & this morning Bud Faris geting shoes & J. Tucker has got a few

11th cloudy & like for Rain this morning we are Beeting apples for vinegar,- Bet, one of our Milch cows Died Some time ago, Passing Blood seeming to be her complaint, last evening another cow Mary Died in same way Passing Blood. also one of our sheep Died in clover lot,- Very wet weather, & like to be so this morning cows are at mountain field where Mary Died

12th Strait Stone meeting Did not Rain this day & turned rather cooler & wind from N.W at night quite cool Fannie W & M F. here

1852 Novr 2nd Presidential Election this day Very Blustering in the evening & a Thunder cloud came up & Rained a little — we are Housing some corn in morning halling wood Sewed about 2 Bus. wheat next to orchard & bushed it. Plowing for cutt down stalks below the House – Hogs failedup this morning to come began to get up balance of succors for negroes

4th Halled one Log to Yates for him, better one than he sawed for us – he owes a little to boot yesterday we gathered succors began to shoe make & sewing wheat next to orchard — this morning we finished sewing wheat next to orchard Fine weather this morning we are digging Our Sweet Potatoes - Dug about ½ say 50 or 60 Bus.

5th this morning like for Rain & we are our Potatoesnot digging making another Hog Pen, cutting down Corn by Middle Barn to sew wheat - all our Hogsup

6th Fanning Out wheat spining Federick gone to Mill 4 Bus. Corn 2½ wheat for our flour for Jno Tucker& 2½ Do Raining fine weather for wheats that is sewed We have sewed 22 or 23 Bus, & 1½ Bus Rice,

7th Sunday cloudy & moderate weather

8th went to saw mill with another Log to yates choped around stumps etc -

9th Dug Balance of our Potatoes etc

10 Fixing for Lynchg to start tomorrowmorning

22nd, went to Lynchg & to Court. Finished Sewing wheat; pulling away Greens & nearly done shoemaking - began to Grub & Cut in new ground Given Lila Kitty & Lowry a Blanket a ps also Clem, Sandy & Malissa a Blanket a ps

23rd cleared off very pretty morning last night cold & Rainy we are grubing cutting & Hallingto day wood I am going to Mrs Hunts to see Mrs Coleman

Decr 2nd Finished shucking all our branch Corn & old Land Have all the fresh Land where we sewed wheat here at home to get up now fine weather for it

3rd Raining this morning & Turned Cooler making Baskets & shoeing making –

4 Halled up wood & Housed Corn in evening moderate clear day - 5 went to S.S. M House to hear Br. McLaughlin ¬

6 Killed 2 Hogs this morning. Pulling off Corn & Halling up, Fair moderate day

7 Halling up Corn in the evening clouded up & Rained a little so that we shucked no corn

8. clear fine morning, sent Fed to Mill 5 Bus. Corn & 2½ Bus wheat for J. Tucker Trying to finish Halling up corn this morning then for shucking & Housing —

16th Finished Our Corn last monday & this day its raining last night it Hailed quite cool Cut & Halled wood yesterday,- to day we are shoeing making Baskets etc etc

21st Finished Halling stalks next to orchard & sewed the wheat there & next to [illegible] clearing cloudy & Raining this day. we are striping tobacco weather warm; not quite done Grubbing this side of branch where we are clearing —

22nd Grubbing & Cutting, Finishing sewing wheat where stacks is in field, but not finished halling stalks Jacob & Lowry halled wood for Mr Neal ½ day

5th Kill our Hogs 3 or 4 days ago It has been Raining nearly all thisweek only clear 1 day last monday very wet time indeed Have not seen the sun for several days

1853 Jany 5. It has been raining most all this X & one or Two Jany came in & night before last it rained & snowed very bad night Henry sick all this week & all have bad colds etc.

1853 Feby 3rd alse got out this morning Henry Pidling about House yet my wife gone to Mr. Lewis’s & David Millers, We are cutting Big growth & expect to get done awhile before night, Jordan halling wood,- Fine weather indeed, moderate; Fixed yesterday to take down prize Barn Tobacco Sent Jerry to store after [P?] etc

4th Finished Cutting this day & have Burnt 4 Plant Beds, Jordan Plowing to day Fed Halling up Balance of stalks off wheat, expect one or Two to go to malling & some to shrubing Corn Land – Jacob gone after Catharine Spiller at Mr Fitzgeralds, been there 3 or 4 weeks

5th Raining this morning, Finishing cutting & Halling up corn stalks out of wheat, alse & Henry yet in house; striping tobacco in middle Barn & Expect to finished there to day & then for striping in prize Barn — Weather warm, my Boar gone for a week,

6th Very warm & Raining, Just did stripe Tobacco in middle Barn, & Packed down Lugs & Hung the good & second yesterday – Raining nearly all theday

7 cloudy & like for Rain took down nearly all the prize Barn of Tobacco & striped some there & finished striped new Barn back of Garden,- Halled one Load from mountain to overseers House to Striped moderate weather, Hung up meat Saturday last –

8th my wife & Cate gone to J D Hunts visiting Malissa & Kitty grubing Corn Land Johns field Killed Beef & veal this morning. Jordan Plowing up Irish Potatoe Patch, Fed Jacob & sandy malling Halled out straw Halled leaves etc etc etc – Planted Irish Potatoe Patch in cow pen

9th Sent to mill to day 4 Bus wheat for fine flour 7½ Bushels corn for mean covered Irish Potatoe Patch with leaves.
