22nd clear & cool dry weather

23 Halling out manure on Turnip Patch Finished Hilling new ground & second yrs Land & Hilling up Lots = Planted snaps on Hill last Saturday - Weather clear & dry My wife & children gone to Mrs Hunts to see the Charlotte Poeple etc.

24 Hilling up Branch Tobacco & also newlot Stacking Oats this morning - clear & fair Catharine S. starts to Mrs Walkups school at $1½ pr month say for every 20th days goesshe

25. Raining this morning began Just before day then Rfull for it. very much needed. Spining & shelling Corn Mr Myers here nearly finished working with hay yesterday both lots Stacked Our Oats yesterday light Crop

21 Rained another shower last evening Toped over our Tobacco yesterday & wormed it over Thinning corn last evening & this morning, sent for waggon at shop Plowing Turnip Patch & Part of Pea Patch on Branch - cloudy likeRain for

27 Halling Logs for Barn & shrubing for corn began to clean up on Johns branch This morning alse ann, Lila cutting down beans, yesterday we Harrowed our cotton & finished putting little dirt to our Lot Tobacco Halling Logs & shrubing in fresh ground Fed & Jane cloudy & like for rain

28. Raining a little this morning, worming Lots this morning - Raining finely to day — cleaning up on Johns branch. Lila alse & ann - Jordan & Lowry choping in corn

29th went to Mr McCullocks funeral to day pd Lewis $5 Recd Robl for 1 pr old [?eg] wheels

30. Cutting Logs & Halling for Barn, & cleaning up on Johns Branch, - fine weather,

1851 March 4th Plowing in Fresh field sett ½ Our Logs Heaps on fire & we had work with the fire in & all over that part where had set the Heaps fire fine weather windy day

5 Finished plowing fresh field & gone to Mount[ain] field this evening, Halling Rails at new ground cutting Logs in new ground etc etc

6th March Plowing with 2 Plows in the mountain field Fed & alse halled up oats straw shucks & 1 Load Leaves in Stables overseer Set up Hhd alseJane cutting in new ground Barn Logs Jordan & Lowry burning Brush etc

7th Rained a little yesterday & all last night & hard to day striping Tobacco in new Barn Sewed Over Our Plant Beds about this

9. went to Harmony Powerfull freshit[freshet] & MrPlunket not at on Saturday-meeting

10. Set Our Logs Heaps on fire, Halling wood,

11 Treading Out Oats Halling Rails at Overseers House etc Burning up Log heaps Fair & fine weather for time year

12 working on Road Lila & Jane cutting Barn alse Jordan & Lowry cleaning up in new ground fine day -

13th Began to Sew Oats in Johns field - Began to prize Lugs Lila Kitty & Lowry & overseer Beautifull day for prizing &

14 Sewing Oats, halling out wood & Rails out of new ground, Broke Hester Ann & Celam to Plow this week Both Plow very well most done prizing our Lug Hhd this day

15th Same work as on the 14th fine weather

16th Rained hard last night my wife gone to Mrs Hunts Sent for Cate who has been at Mr Fitzgeralds five weeks & in fact has not been at home much since last Christmas, fine warm days fair Sewed 11 Bushels this day.

1851 March 18th. Rained last night & yesterday Finished striping our Tobacco this day gone to mill 1½ Bbls Corn Sent Henry Halling wood Balance Burning Log Heaps cloudy & Rainy this morning

22nd Began to Coller in new ground yesterday Sewing Oats in Johns field Rained & stoped them they then shelled some corn cleaned out stables & halled leaves etc Lila swingled flax —

23rd Rained & hailed again ground very wet

24th Sent Jordan to mill with 2 Bus. wheat Fed Halling wood Balance at work at the new ground fencing etc — etc —

25th March took part of meat this morning as follows 21 Hams in Bbl 11 midlings in Do 7 shoulders in Do 39 ps put up

2 Hams 2 shoulders 2½ midlings 4 ps in Box

1851 mar. 25 Coltering in new ground cutting & fencing Henry riving Boards for Barn, fixing start to Lynchg to day at 12 Oclock — with Logs

April1850 [1851]1st Since 25th we have been to Lynchg sold Lug Hhd etc been fencing & Collering in new ground no rain since 25th March Yesterday we took down our short Tobacco Planting Our Irish Potatoes this day Sewing Oats in Johns field - cloudy & very wary warm weather ——

2nd Rained this day Began to Hill in new ground Sewing Oats next to orchard, - sewed upwards of 40 Bushels to day - Still cloudy & warm Sewed about 45 Bushels in all

3rd finished sewing oats at 12 oclock,- Plowing for corn mountain field & at stony point 3 or 4 hands hilling in new ground overseer coltering Turned cool & like for rain - etc etc etc

4th Plowing for corn 6 hands Hilling in new ground with Kitty Jordan & lowry overseer coltering -

5th Henry gone to shop to carry Iron for waggon & 1 pr besides & Plows balance cleaning up balance of new ground, malling etc etc.

1852 Sept 1st Engaged Bud Faris to Rive & draw shingles & find himself at Two Dollars a Thousand to be paid in wheat & Vinegar or something else.

2nd Went to Colo Dickensons Chalk Level for Mrs McCullock & to CH for Capt Fitzgerald & myself etc fine Day ———

3rd worming & succoring Tobacco & cut 23 stacks out of new ground that was firing

4th worming Lot Tobacco & finished & went in fresh ground Jordan Lowry & claiborne, Fed alse Sandy & Kitty sawing from 10 OC till night Henry went to Raise Barn at Doct Walkups Lila & Jordan Plowing at mountain field Something bit Pompeys fore Leg Swelled very much Stoped him @ 1 OC put Pain Killer on it & at Bathed it in mullin cloudy all night Rained & also day& [P?] top etc

5th fair & clear quite cool this morning Pompeys Leg Better 7th got Better & Kate got weddingto F Holys

9th Rain Rain, Rain, nearly every day & we have a good deal of fodder on the ground & we have cut about four Hundred stacks in new ground & to day Rained nearly all dayspining making Baskets etc etc

10th Spining Basket Making & mending Cates shoes Rained all night last night & this morning Bud Faris geting shoes & J. Tucker has got a few

11th cloudy & like for Rain this morning we are Beeting apples for vinegar,- Bet, one of our Milch cows Died Some time ago, Passing Blood seeming to be her complaint, last evening another cow Mary Died in same way Passing Blood. also one of our sheep Died in clover lot,- Very wet weather, & like to be so this morning cows are at mountain field where Mary Died

12th Strait Stone meeting Did not Rain this day & turned rather cooler & wind from N.W at night quite cool Fannie W & M F. here

1852 Novr 2nd Presidential Election this day Very Blustering in the evening & a Thunder cloud came up & Rained a little — we are Housing some corn in morning halling wood Sewed about 2 Bus. wheat next to orchard & bushed it. Plowing for cutt down stalks below the House – Hogs failedup this morning to come began to get up balance of succors for negroes

4th Halled one Log to Yates for him, better one than he sawed for us – he owes a little to boot yesterday we gathered succors began to shoe make & sewing wheat next to orchard — this morning we finished sewing wheat next to orchard Fine weather this morning we are digging Our Sweet Potatoes - Dug about ½ say 50 or 60 Bus.

5th this morning like for Rain & we are our Potatoesnot digging making another Hog Pen, cutting down Corn by Middle Barn to sew wheat - all our Hogsup

6th Fanning Out wheat spining Federick gone to Mill 4 Bus. Corn 2½ wheat for our flour for Jno Tucker& 2½ Do Raining fine weather for wheats that is sewed We have sewed 22 or 23 Bus, & 1½ Bus Rice,

7th Sunday cloudy & moderate weather

8th went to saw mill with another Log to yates choped around stumps etc -

9th Dug Balance of our Potatoes etc

10 Fixing for Lynchg to start tomorrowmorning

22nd, went to Lynchg & to Court. Finished Sewing wheat; pulling away Greens & nearly done shoemaking - began to Grub & Cut in new ground Given Lila Kitty & Lowry a Blanket a ps also Clem, Sandy & Malissa a Blanket a ps

23rd cleared off very pretty morning last night cold & Rainy we are grubing cutting & Hallingto day wood I am going to Mrs Hunts to see Mrs Coleman
