1858 Decr 27th Beautiful weather this morning Cleared of[f] fair & moderate -

28th Claiborne Plowing making 2 days. Jordan & Lowry cutting Logs for Henry House & a shop in evening filling up gully & making bridge, Henry down at aspen grove getting shingles, etc

29th Claiborne Still plowing Henry getting shingles, Sent meat by Jordan to plantation this morning -, - cloudy & like for Rain Nannie Sallie & Jerry at Mr Hunts.

-30 Claiborne - Henry etc Halling leaves till 12 Oclock began to work this morning Rained a little I went to Plantation overseer fixing shingles awhile in morning & then they all striping Tobacco here & at aspen Grove —

31 Rained Striping Tobacco at both places -- Rained all —

Janry 1st 1859 Raining all morning striping Tobacco Mrs Hunts & Mrs Hargrave here, - striped Tobacco till 12 Oclock & then halled wood, fixing shingles etc

Sunday 2nd Janry cloudy & I went down to aspen Grove & stayed all night —

3rd Killed Hogs down there, & deliv^d Mr Cothran his part as overseer Henry Carried Kitty down there, cutting wood here, & after Killing Hogs Lowry went to mill from there carried 10 Bushels Corn for meal 7½ to Come here & 2½ for a standing Turn for aspen Grove they down there went to work at new ground Henry bro^t Balance Pork home & then halled wood, at night we salted it up,Mr Chumbley fixing shingles for smoke house

1859 Feby 6th Tolerable cool day —

Feby 7th Monday Sent Henry down to Aspen Grove to Hall Stocks to Millers Mill for Hh^ds Staves etc Carry wheat & Corn to grind

9th Yesterday ^^{& day before} we were Cutting fencing etc nailed boards on Jerrys Hen House, Henry has returned. him & Lowry Carried 8 Logs to Millers Mill, for Hh^ds Staves & Plank & Carried 1 Barrel Corn for us for meal ½ Barrel D^o Corn & ½ Bbl wheat for Mr. Chumbly here & Carried 1 Turn wheat for aspen Grove had it all ground & bro^t home,- this morning still Raining & we are burning brush Cutting & getting Rafters & [sheds] for Houses etc,- - Mrs Neal here, Mr. Chumbly mended Sallies Shoes & Cut out mine

10th Mr. Chumbly made me a pair of shoes Henry Claiborne & little Henry gone to aspen Grove to strip Tobacco, cleared off Cold & windy Mrs Chumbly Sick all this week

11th Halling Rails to day around corn field fence Balance Cutting & Malling at overs =eers House cloudy & Snowing a little, at 10 Oclock, Sent Jerry Smith to aspen Grove with 1 lb Cotton for Malissa to spin & get wheat she has spun etc -

12th Raining a little we are Halling Rails & fencing, weather so disagreeable I did not go to meeting to day not being well enough for such weather Jacob not come yet from Lynchg

13th I went to Meeting to day- tolerable day Jacob Came Saturday night from Lynchg for his Lugs got 4.90 Seconds $5 & upwards & for his best got $8½ -

14th Cut & Malled wood to Day Henry halled Rails, around Corn field fence -

15. Cloudy & Raining a little this morning.

1859 July 23rd. working on negro ^House Barn & made door & fixed cellar Hut etc took John 1 day to Plaster over big room first time Bob left this morning with Mrs Hunt for the Court House, looks like for rain

24th went to prayer meeting at Strait Stone like for rain this evening,-

25. cloudy & like for Rain this morning Sent Kate another bottle of Brandy Toping fresh ground Tobacco working framing Top of Barn Cutting down Pines beyound Susan Roarks,- putting up Bed stead John Plastering big Room over we expect to Load our waggon for Lynchg & Ja^s Shields to day — We have 15 Hogs in pasture 2 in pen we have 33 or 34 at aspen Grove & 6 or 8 pigs, James shields Loaded & carried 1 Hh^d & little Bbl fine Tobacco, - Cash paid him for Toll $1.00

1859 Augt 9th I am going to the CH to day to see about Mrs Stones business as Comm^r Agreed with Cothran for another year as overseer —dry weather yet Mr Waldron brot another Load Shingles 1977 hundred above like the others I got of him @$3½ pr Thousand. dry weather yet

10. 10th Raised The Top of our Barn to day Mr Cothran Jordan Sandy & Lowry Came up to help us got it done & they went home little after 12 Oclock I went to Edge Hill to meeting — dry here yet tho fine Rains not far off

11th I stayed at settling with Mr Faris Whitehead wrote Several letters etc one to Bro. Jno & Jonathan Duffy & Henry Wingfield, Mr Chummy & Henry & claiborne at work on Barn, balance Cutting clem spining & drying fruit

12th Same work to day I am going to aspen Grove this evening & James Shields

13the went to meeting to day Mrs Hunt Came back here dry & Hot yet 14th went to meeting

15th went to Court. Balance claiborne little Henry & Jim gone to Fannies to thrash wheat Halled 2 Logs to Mill & Halled plank from mill wormed & Succored & toped Tobacco got done a little after 12 oclock round ing & Jointing shingles in evening I Bob Worked here this day —

10th Sent to Mrs Hunt for the nubbins She gave me & 2 Stirup Irons for waggon Halled wood Rails all day, little went after Chumneys Meal or flour overseer & & Smith at work on House laying floor etc etc Cutting & malling in new ground I went to meeting & aspen Grove this evening for benefit of negroes
