24th Doubled all day nearly & made upwards of Twenty Gallons Brandy - Pressed out Cider Beet apples with 4 of our hands balance with overseer worming & succoring finished Toping this day — clear & dry – Mr Lain went up to Cedar Hill worked on shelter gate etc stayed^{2 days}

25 wormed & succoring over Tobacco overseer making me a pr shoes clear & dry

26 We Raised Barn at mountain –

27 Pulled down & moved overseers House alse & Jerry Smith worming & succoring Tobacco in Lot. Had Lowry here yesterday to help us Raise Barn,-

28th Began to put up overseers House it set in to Raining & Rained smartly thank the Lord, & then we went at again about 10 & Balance worming & succoring Lot Tobacco

29th went to Strait Stone meeting to hear Mr McLaughlin few Persons

30 working on overseers House shingling ^{& sheeting} I went to see Sarah McCullock,- worming succoring Tobacco,-

31st all except Sandy & Jerry smith gone to Cedar Hill to save forest, & I am stilling

Sept 1st at Cedar Hill Beeting cider &^Stilling except Sandy & Jerry smith Toping & succoring Tobacco at mountain spring

2nd Same work 31st & 1st Sept this day we are at home pulling fodder clear & dry Sent little Henry to Miles Tucker for overseer to get Corn for him, & sent to mill for ourselves claiborne went & Carried 1 Turn Two Bus. Corn & brings back one [C] 3 Turns there, stilling at Cedar Hill

3rd working in Tobacco & Fodder & I am stilling at Cedar Hill made upwards of 14 Gallons Brandy

Oct 12th It Rained this day firing Tobacco etc

– 13th I went to Cedar Hill had the House washed out gathered some apples cutting down corn, Jacob gone to Lynchg - here & they are Housing our last Cutting filled new Barn firing 3, & had to carry some of new ground to mountain Barn,

14th Began to Plow for wheat yesterday in Lot Sewing to day firing Tobacco, getting succors & Knocking Tobacco stubble after plows, etc. overseer made Barn door yesterday Hung it etc etc Mr Hunts John came here this morning to Build overseers house chimney Buck Halling wood & Rails this evening

15th Sent cart to shop to have Tire Cut this morning on one wheel Mr Chumbly sent 2 Bus wheat & I sent 4 Bushels Corn to mill we are sewing wheat etc cleaning out Trenches. Lowry came down last night to Sew wheat. Finishing firing Tobacco to day John Jordan & little Henry building chimny

16th Buck carrying shingles to Cedar Hill carr^d 32 lbs Bacon in 6 lb Bacon for Kitty & Fed till 24th or 25. Balance for working etc,- Cutting down ^ ^corn up there sewing wheat here cutting down corn etc working on chimny etc

17th Stayed at home this day -

18 went to Court on by Cedar Hill & Mr Hunts to get Kates school acc^t & failed to get it etc Sewing wheat here etc finished up at Chumbleys sewing Corn Land

19th Mr Wyatt not at Cedar Hill yet halled 2 Loads shingles up there to day

1858 Oct 19 Cutting down corn at Cedar Hill & fixing Land for wheat here Cutting down & stacking Corn & sewing wheat nearly done next to orchard –

20th Oct overseer Jordan & claiborne gone to Cedar Hill to commence overseers House this morning balance here & there same as yesterday a little cloudy this morning Cut & spayed Hunts sows shoats about a a week ago, 8 in number —

21st overseer Jordan & claiborne at Cedar Hill Cutting Logs for his House to live in next ^year We finished Sewing wheat here to day sewed 21 Bushels Twenty one, this evening pulling Corn by malissas House from chickens alse & Jerry Smith scouring out overseers House here; Sent Lowry & Jim to Cedar Hill. Plowing for wheat in LotMr Wyatt Rounding & Jointing shingles 2900 @ 4/6 pr Thousand & I have agreed to give him $1 pr day & put a hand with him from the time he begins after fixing the shingles, say next monday morning —

22nd we all went to work on Road from Dews to Codeys to day - Balance shucking corn picking out Cotton

23rd Sent Henry to Faris mill with 1 Log 8 or 9 Bus. wheat for flour & & Bus corn for meal Balance gathering corn Mr Chumbly fixing corn shelling Room Housing Corn etc gathering cotton to day. I am going to Riceville etc & Cedar Hill flour Plank to go there this ^evening at home this day Mr J D Hunts Lucy Ann here etc

25th Began to sew wheat at Cedar Hill & Mr Wyatt & Henry shingling dwelling house Mr Chumbly at Here sewing wheat etc etc.

1858 Oct. 26th finished sewing wheat in Lot at Cedar Hill this day & went to Plowing at fresh ground shingling House Mr Wyatt & Henry - Mr Chumbley at aspen Grove & Jordan halling wood at work on corn shelling Room at Corn House finished sewing wheat in fresh ground at Cedar Hill

27th Finished sewing fresh ground at Cedar Hill shingling House Mr Chumbley at work at Plantation on Carriage house & covering negroes house Finishing shingling one side of house Jordan Halled wood at home & Halled wood for Mr Neale-

28. Chumbley & Jordan at home balance up at Cedar Hill sewing wheat & covering House ^{finishing corn shelling Room} – – – – – cloudy & like for Rain, Rained a little last night - put my hogs at Stoney pint at ^{this time -} Rained a little off & on nearly ^allday Just began to Shingle front side of House at Cedar Hill, Mr Wyatt left yesterday evening. We finished plowed up Land for wheat but did not Sew it. we shelled Corn & fix stable in evening -

29th Began to Strip ^^{^Tobacco} in new prize Barn to day all Come home from Cedar Hill, to day & last evening - still Raining

30th Went to appraise Mrs Stone Estate, Mr Chumbly Jordan & Lowry halled up Logs for overseers house at Cedar Hill gathered Succors here Skimed stable Logs etc gathered Cotton

31st Stayed at home all day little sick

Novr 1st Digging Sweet Potatoes this day & yams Sent Henry & jerry Smith to Cedar Hill Shingling House Sent to Buck ^{to Mill}5 Bags 9 Bushels Corn for meal - clear this morning

21st All at some work here & at aspen Grove, I went to Division at Mrs Hunts Rained some & very windy - Mr Cothran House got on fire sunday morning & burnt smartly at top from bad chimney,- & monday morning sent Henry down there with [Planks] to Repair & finish chimney - etc etc

22. Sent Jerry down to aspen Grove he gave out a Bushels mean,- I went to Mrs Hunts sale, bot a Cow, out stack etc chumbly moved up here this morning,- Henry & waggon here now lowry went back, with cart,- I dont know what they are at down at Aspen Grove,- at work in new ground & moving Kitchen to Cothrans & putting it up

23rd Killed our Hogs here. Halling wood etc. fixing stables etc etc — At aspen Grove Cothran, is finishing his Kitchen chimney daubing etc - etc — Pretty weather at this time, yesterday we halled a Load of Oats bot at Mrs Hunts & some other things to day Lowry bro^t our Turkey from aspen Grove — — I was there, etc

24th I was at aspen Grove the day before give out meal flour & meat till wednes=day next —

25. at home all day - -

26 Sunday at home all day read to Negroes Christmas day & Sunday too.

27. Claiborne at home plowing Mrs Chumbly ^{in apple orchard}got my horse gone to her Fathers Sent Henry to Vaughans & then to Mount Airy, Big Henry gone down to aspen Grove getting shingles I am at home Jacob has not staid at home more than 2 or 3 nights in a fortnight he is at Johns Mrs Colemans & Mounts Airy etc etc.
