1845 Feby 22 this week Mr Moon has got shingles to cover Old House & he Began to strip tobacco in Big Barn on Hill this day - 21st halled lugs out of Mr Grastys new ground this day.

26th Feby. Beautiful weather allmost like May- Jas C. Hunt married yesterday 25th Feby 1845 — Shingling our old House this day Burning log Heaps etc etc Plowing in mountain field Mr Moon left on Thursday 27th Feby & Irby on Friday 28th without finishing

March 1 Children started to school this day -Jeremy at Stony Point & Plowing -Planted Irish Potatoes, English Peas & onions etc etc began to prize Lugs

7 I went to Rice to meeting

8 Raining & we are stripping Tobacco weather changed & a good deal cooler In Jany 1845 made a bargain Mr Jas Murphy to Plaster my House & white wash it to be finished off as I want it for $45. But If I think myself this work is worth $47.50$ I am to give him that sum the two Dolls and fifty cents is at my discretion which sum of $45 I am to pay said Murphy March or april 1846 - this is our contract

March [10?] Halled stacks and wood out& Piled up trash of new ground

12 Halled up & getting out oats to sow

1851 Dec. Memorandum of business Done for Mrs Lucy Ann Clements & her as Guardian for Nannie & Lucy C Clements also ——— During the past Summer I went to Court House I think about 3 times about Mr James Clements account – also Recd $3 for collecting money of Ezekiel Dews & JW on Bond from Grasty -

24th & 25th Dec. I went to see Mr E. Franklin about Mary & her children, also to Richd Smiths to collect for Rent got none also to see Geo. A P Dove to Rent him the Place where he lives for 1852 also to Collect for 1851 but did not get any money = 1852 March 12th I commenced this morning before day to adg[lost in margin] Lucy Anns Grdn acct but could do it till she came in evening then fixed it, for settlement by Comr say engaged best part of the day & part of the night

22nd went to Court in part for Lucy Ann & others

Augt Court 1852 Saw Mr Franklin about [Keeping] Mary & children for next year — made no bargain y[et]

Augt 31st went to see about childrens Land on River got back late Bed time

1853 Augt 25 Went to Rent Land & Collect Rent all day & in the night

Feby1854 I have been 4 or 5 times to vaughans to attend to suit against Richd Smith for Mrs Clements. Rented out the Place where Dove lives to Thos Walker etc went to see Mr Brooks about Eliza

Dec 14 went to Mrs Clements millers [Snows?] Dove & Franklins for Lucy-Ann - Lucy Ann Clement Give me this day $12 - for attending to her business etc.

1850 Decr 23rd Halled Tobacco from fresh ground barn to prize Barn, & Packed it down to strip

234rd Halled leaves till 12 oclock then fixed up cow shelter Rake in up manure & waggon & Cart Halling wood till night Fair & Cool, Killed 8 Hogs yesterday the 23rd 25th Stayed at home myself my wife went to Mrs Hunts

26th went to see Robt & Mrs McCullock Grastys Mrs Farmer etc etc as School Commissioner - etc

27 Rode all day as School Comr. & finished

28th Raining this morning moderate weather

29th cleared off cool

30th Halled wood & Cut in new ground Henry has been sick most one week

31st Finished Thursday & friday in Christmas getting last of Indigent children as S. Commissioner Snowed last night & we are striping Tobacco

1851 Janry 1st cleared off cool striping Tobacco that come out of the House the top Blowed off in fresh ground - expect to get done that to day — I went to Mrs Colemans & Yates yesterday to hire Jas The Snow is about Two Inches Deep

2nd Sent Fed to mill 5 Bushels wheat for chop 1½ Bbls corn for meal & ½ Bbl for overseer & to get a Bag Cotton at mill

7th Fine weather cutting in snow nearly gonenew ground Halling wood for Mr. Neale ½ day with cart Written to Mr Roach respecting Miss Milly Ann McCullock Land, & wrote a notice forwarning any persons from trespassing on it & offering it for Rent - or lease etc etc Halled Leaves & straw about this time

11 Burning & finishing Plant Bed on mountain & sewed it. 19 yds square cutting & pressin= 2 more to barn next week
