1859 Decr 17th Mr Fox here yet - left about 10 or 11 Saturday self – & Horse worked on well in evening & Layed Hath in negroes House Piled shingles etc stoped Raining in evening

18th Stayed at home to day - -

19 went to Court. Chumney at work on well House & Jerry Smith Henry Halling wood claiborne & little Henry cutting & malling Rails & wood

20th Raining a little this morning working on Stable to day putting up rafters Sawing out doors facing of etc = I went down to Mrs Hunts with her Sent my horse to shop this evening by Charles,

21st worked on Stable, claiborne Jointing shingles little Henry & Smith Dawbing House in evening I went to Sale of Mrs Hunts Land, no Sale, at all, Mr Tompkins here on my return Fox came at night Mr T stayed all night

22. Mr T. left. Fox Finished well, Henry & claiborne with him till Dinner cleaning out & finished well HenryLittle Henry& chumbly at work on Stable claiborne & Henry & Smith went to new ground malling & cutting, Jerry went down to Plantation aspen Grove Kelley carried my hog home & got 3¼ VinegarGallons

23 working on Stable. Sent Henry to Mill Turn wheat for us 2½ & 2 Bus for chumny. brot back plank & bag Corn meal brot back — I have had sick head ache all day

24 Sent Henry to mill got Plank his own flour & Bens. worked on stable & negroe House & Rounding & Jointing Shingles I went down to warranting at Mr Millers about Irbys & Wm Yates Debts done nothing –

1860 Jany 6 to 14th I went to Louisa started 5th brot home 6 negroes to my children & had them checked by commissioners chosen by my children & they carried them on home this day & Jerry has cut & malled wood for Bed Plant in new ground Halled leaves 10 Loads & wood & striped Tobacco when Raining several days -, - found all well when I got home soon this morning from republican

15 Stayed at home beautiful day

16 Beautiful day Halled Cut & malled I went to Carry Danl R Hunts Fanny home to Davis & to Plantation & Mr Lovelaces

17th Sent Henry after Stack fodder at Grastys Rained in morning some striped Tobacco awhile In evening went to new cutting & malling Jerry halling —

18. Jerry Started back to Mr McDaniels to school, little Henry with him We are fencing back of Peach Orchard then for new ground Cutting & malling etc Hung up our meat to day as follows midlings Hung 67. Joles 26 pieces Hams 68 Shoulders 63 making in all 224 ps s. including Joles Halling shingles to Stables to cover it;

19th Worked on new stable shingling Clem & Jerry Smith cleaned out stable this morning Claborne malling Rail, etc cleaning up in new ground

20th Same work on stable & new ground -

21 Same work on Stable & new ground today Put ashes around Peach trees & went to mill Claiborne rounded & Jointed shingles till 12 oclock

22 Fine day, stayed at home I have a bad cold

23rd Finished covering Stable, halled wood & Cutting & malling wood for Plant Bed on round sent to mill 19th Saturday

1860 Jany 24th Burnt sewed fenced in & covered 1 Plant Bed on Road & fixed for another, - William A Shields here helping us burn to day

25th Burnt Sewed fenced in & covered Plant Bed on Road, put Guano on both, etc - Mr Shields helped us again to day & left

26th went to Mr Pannills to day to get destraining warrant vs H. Wyatt for J D Hunts Est went to aspen Grove, in evening. claiborne malling sent to Post office this morning, Halling leaves 5 Loads for Stables Barn, etc Halled up 1 Stack Oats this evening - I am fixing to start to Danville in the morning If its notraining

27th & 28. I went to Danville brot Sallie home fine weather, Plowing & mauling next to Whiteheads, Beding for Corn

29 Stayed at home D. R Hunt come after Fannie

30th Halled wood mauling etc piling Brush

31st Halling Rails mauling next to Whitehead began to Rain a little. I went to old place & Hodnetts to day

Feby 1st Rained & this morning gro -und covered with snow, about 1 or 2 Inches Deep, shelling Corn spining Sent Henry to Mill 2½ Bus. wheat for chop 2½ Do for mean & 2½ Bushels Corn for meal & 1 at mill to bring home, I am going to Sarah McCullocks —

February 2nd Sent Jerry Smith to Yates shop & Mill Carrd 2 Bus. wheat for beat flour Big Broad axe to fix by Friday & little Broad to do to day & bring home, etc - very cold this morning 10 Degrees below zero,- clear weather

3rd very cold I went to aspen Grove mauling & Burning Brush next to Capt Whiteheads

12th Stayed at Home to day Kate Fannie & Sallie here

13th Malling & Cutting to day —

14 Plowing Cutting & malling etc - Jacob came here last night Raining in evening Pal came after Nails etc - Rained all night

15 Fixing stable shelling corn awhile worked some in shop & then mauling clem spining all day — cloudy & like for Rain

16 I went to Plantation settled with Cothran & there is down there 40½ Bushels & 2½ Bushels Sent Martha Neal to be returned shortly making 43 Bushels I owe him for his finding 13 Bus. Corn & I agreed to let him have 2½ Bushels of wheat instead of Corn then I owe him 10½ Bus Corn & Sowed there last fall 31 Bushels The negroes there now is to have 2 Turns of wheat & 1 Corn till they use 10 Bushels then there will be 30½ Bushels there april 20 I told overseer to let negroes eat 20 Bus. more 2 Young Lambs there to day — Sent Henry to Capt Gilberts to day with BagCotton to Pick 50 lbs did not get it Mauling here next to Capt whiteheads

17 went to MrsHunts Place after Tables she gave my wife & Sallie & Trough then he went to Halling wood till night. Balance Piling wood next to Capt whiteheads & finished mauling there about 12 Oclock stoped Gullies in evening like for Rain

18th Raining this morning Sent Harry & Jer. Smith to Mill 1 Turn Corn & 1 Turn wheat & to bring back Turn corn there clem spining, balance making brooms etc this morning, cloudy & like for rain not very cold - roads very bad

1860 March 2nd Sent Henry claiborne & Harry to aspen Grove to Roll Logs I went Smith Plowing Cotton Patch Clem fencing & Rake in new ground some next to Whiteheads Delightfull weather

3rd Sewed my Plant Beds over here Halled Rails, stacking rails in near new ground Raking one next to whiteheads Fine weather My Two Young Sows had 12 Pigs Large had 7 white one had 5 -

4 Sunday went to meeting Edgehill

5. Thrashing Oats & Halling Rails -

6 Began to sew Oats making Horse lot this morning Piling wood & Raking new ground next to whiteheads winding Oats If this wind Blow

7th. Began to Colter in new ground next to Capt whiteheads, Burning trash heaps there Nannie & me went to aspen grove to day.

8. Sent 55 lbs Iron to yates 2 Bands for little waggon & 2 Collers to Lay & 1 Grub Hoe to weld Eye on.

9th. Burning Log Heaps & Trash heap & Rained

10. Sewing Oats Hilling. etc etc - I went to Chalk Level to attend to warrant agst Stanly Adams & Davis no one but Stanly tryed & I had to pay him 1.90 & Cost 50/-. very cold Hilling to this day -

11. giving to milling to day —

12. Planted Irish Potatoes by Kitchen near 1 Bus. - Sent Harry & Smith to Mill got 1 Turn each meal & wheat to eat & sent 1 of wheat & 1½ Bus corn Coltering & Hilling this morning after Planting Potatoes fine weather for Spring

13th Halled & Mauled till 12 Oclock then Hilled & sewed Oats, very windy & cold this morning.
