1851 Dec. Memorandum of business Done for Mrs Lucy Ann Clements & her as Guardian for Nannie & Lucy C Clements also ——— During the past Summer I went to Court House I think about 3 times about Mr James Clements account – also Rec^d $3 for collecting money of Ezekiel Dews & JW on Bond from Grasty -

24th & 25th Dec. I went to see Mr E. Franklin about Mary & her children, also to Rich^d Smiths to collect for Rent got none also to see Geo. A P Dove to Rent him the Place where he lives for 1852 also to Collect for 1851 but did not get any money = 1852 March 12th I commenced this morning before day to adg[lost in margin] Lucy Anns Grdn acct but could do it till she came in evening then fixed it, for settlement by Comr say engaged best part of the day & part of the night

22nd went to Court in part for Lucy Ann & others

Augt Court 1852 Saw Mr Franklin about [Keeping] Mary & children for next year — made no bargain y[et]

Augt 31st went to see about childrens Land on River got back late Bed time

1853 Augt 25 Went to Rent Land & Collect Rent all day & in the night

Feby¹⁸⁵⁴ I have been 4 or 5 times to vaughans to attend to suit against Rich^d Smith for Mrs Clements. Rented out the Place where Dove lives to Tho^s Walker etc went to see Mr Brooks about Eliza

Dec 14 went to Mrs Clements millers [Snows?] Dove & Franklins for Lucy-Ann - Lucy Ann Clement Give me this day $12 - for attending to her business etc. 

2th april 1856 Plowing for Corn Set Log Heaps on fire in evening Rained very good Rain

3rd Striped Tobacco till evening then it cleared off & we went to Plowing Hilling etc I went with Mr Pannill & Hunt to see & inquire about W^m Vaughan Beautiful weather at this time

4 Plowing for Corn Hilling & Halling out leaves & begun to Colter in new ground to day this day Sewed Guano on Slope next to new ground next to woods from old meadow Fine weather, –

5 Coltering Second years Land malling wood Hilling same Burning Logs etc Plowing for Corn very good weather – Jordan gone to mill 2 turns Car^d & bring back 4 etc Jacob gone to Meadsville

6th clear pretty day tolerable Cool, Jerry found a Lamb in the woods this day or yesterday –

6 Hilling Coltering new ground & second yrs Land burnint up all our Log to day Plowing for Corn Jacob went to Meadsville

7th Clementina taken Sick yesterday fine weather or day before, - Plowing Hilling etc etc

8th Plowing for corn Hilling Second yrs ground & coltering Sent little Henry for Doct Thomson to see clementina she has been sick since last Saturday let Abram Crews have 3 Bus Oats & I am to have ½ he makes - etc wrote to Fanny White today She has sent me 1 Bushel Corn

9th Hilling in second years ground Coltering on Johns Branch breaking up corn ground coltering in new ground, - fine weather — Plowing on Johns fresh ground, - Doct Thompson came to day to see clem, first time, Doct Thompson came 2nd time to see clem, she is very ^sick Plowing Balance Tobacco Lot, Hilling & Plowing got out Rye yesterday Hilling Plowing on Corn [water stain] for Tobacco etc etc to day

21st All at some work here & at aspen Grove, I went to Division at Mrs Hunts Rained some & very windy - Mr Cothran House got on fire sunday morning & burnt smartly at top from bad chimney,- & monday morning sent Henry down there with [Planks] to Repair & finish chimney - etc etc

22. Sent Jerry down to aspen Grove he gave out a Bushels mean,- I went to Mrs Hunts sale, bot a Cow, out stack etc chumbly moved up here this morning,- Henry & waggon here now lowry went back, with cart,- I dont know what they are at down at Aspen Grove,- at work in new ground & moving Kitchen to Cothrans & putting it up

23rd Killed our Hogs here. Halling wood etc. fixing stables etc etc — At aspen Grove Cothran, is finishing his Kitchen chimney daubing etc - etc — Pretty weather at this time, yesterday we halled a Load of Oats bot at Mrs Hunts & some other things to day Lowry bro^t our Turkey from aspen Grove — — I was there, etc

24th I was at aspen Grove the day before give out meal flour & meat till wednes=day next —

25. at home all day - -

26 Sunday at home all day read to Negroes Christmas day & Sunday too.

27. Claiborne at home plowing Mrs Chumbly ^{in apple orchard}got my horse gone to her Fathers Sent Henry to Vaughans & then to Mount Airy, Big Henry gone down to aspen Grove getting shingles I am at home Jacob has not staid at home more than 2 or 3 nights in a fortnight he is at Johns Mrs Colemans & Mounts Airy etc etc.

1860 Feby 18th went to mauling wood in evening

Feby 19. Started to Court, Fannie stayed all night Sunday night Jere & Sallie went back to school cold day

20. Turned moderate mauling & Cutting wood in new ground, got home Monday night weather moderate

21st Halled Rails till 12 Oclock & then Henry went to Laying off Corn Rows Balance Fencing next to Cap^t whiteheads I went to Post office Peaks Wallers Vaughans Mr Moses & Fannie W Fitzgerald

22 Fencing on Road to day W^m Shields here Halled up Oats & Halling rails till evening & then begin to Plow in orchard I went to aspen Grove & made [Lines]

23₂₅Fencing on Road & striped Tobacco ½ day & took down some Wednesday & then fenced on Road from Branch W^m Shields worked Thursday Friday & Saturday Rolled Logs 2 days nearly & fenced one - this week Henry Halled wood this evening very windy Friday & turned cold

26 Stayed at home to see Mrs Pannill

27 Went to Court House sent after Cotton Turn of wheat to Yates, & 1 to whiteheads Plowed & Stacked Rails next to whiteheads

28 Plowing & Fencing new ground fence made fence on Road yesterday fine weather at this time

29th Fencing at new ground & nearly finished Plowing in Lot rained a little,-

March 1st Sent Henry & Claiborne to Hodnetts to Roll Logs. Plowing, fine day cleared of[f] Beautiful weather,
