1850 Novr 19th Halling up Corn yesterday & to day I have Just got from CH likely for Rain -

24th we have been getting up & Housing corn this week & not done getting where there was no wheat sewed Rained 2 days this week — John Coleman worked here this week making 1 week more one month in all Lila & Malissa & Clem has Blankets this winter Raining this evening

Novr 25. Give to Mr Fitzgerald & Fanny White Tom Perry we are Putting up our Greens & Halling wood etc clear fine day —— Capt Fitzgerald got fountain out of Jail in Montgomery CH

30 Finished our corn this morning Halling wood Fed Shoemaking Rained hard last night made about 120 or 130 Barrels in all warm weather about this time — Jordan gone to mill Expect to sendthis evening Henry

1st Decemr. 1850 clear in morning cloudy in evening I went to Mrs Colemans & Mrs Hunts —

==2nd Mr Owen came here to help about Houseoverseer Mr Tucker came to shingle it cloudy all day

3rd Both here shingling overseers House Henry Jointing shingles cloudy all day – Federick & alse Halling up stalks 2 days Balance Fanning out wheat & Buck wheat made 123 Bus. good wheat & 17 Bus. screan [tolled?] to be sent to Capt Gilberts mill is 6½ Bushels good wheat including Mr Neals, & nearly 1 Bus screan,

7th It has been raining & quite cool nearly all this week Thursday night Friday & Friday night it rained very hard indeed still cloudy & Raining Owen left yesterday evening — Began to strip Tobacco in middle Barn making up Farm Pen & shelters to day Building overseers House chimney about this time

1850 Decr 12th Building overseer House chimmy Halling Rocks leaves Oats wood & Rocks about this time Henry making ladder this morning weather more moderate than for several days I have been to Mrs McCullocks Twice a week for nearly a month

14th Gilbert has been here this week building chimny to overseers House worked 3½ or 4 days quite cool all this week finished chimny & House,- Halled Rocks one day to Henrys House —

17th Cutting in new ground after Killing 1 little Beef & 4 of Our Hogs & salting them up all about 380 lbs

18th My Overseer John Owen Jr moves this day - cutting in new ground Fine weather, Cate & Miss Patricks gone to Mr. Fitzgeralds Bot of Mr. Fitzgerald some Pork for Overseerthis day Bot & pd Jacob for his Crop of Tobacco $2 & sold Jacobs to Cate for $3.00

20th Sent Toll wheat to Capt Gilberts millby J D Owen 6½ Bushels good for My own & Mr Neals 6 Bushe[ls] of my own nearly ½ Bush. for Mr. Neal 1 Bush of screan, 3 Bus. corn for meal 2½ for Owen & 1½ for Henry

21st Rented to John D Hunt Our Oak Hill Plantation, for 5 years on following Conditions He is to clear adjoining the field in 5 years 10 Thousand thousan Tobacco Hills each year fence in & Keeping up all the fencing outside take care of Houses etc etc take care of the spring & give me Twenty Dollars yearly due 25 Decr each year & Should I sell the place & wish him to give it up under 3 years he is only pay $15 a year

22 Miss Patricks gone to Mrs Smiths Cloudy —

23rd Rained last night & came a fair Huricane along here blowed off 1 Tobacco House roof with Tobacco in it blowed down a good deal of fencing & racked our shelter very much.

1850 Decr 23rd Halled Tobacco from fresh ground barn to prize Barn, & Packed it down to strip

234rd Halled leaves till 12 oclock then fixed up cow shelter Rake in up manure & waggon & Cart Halling wood till night Fair & Cool, Killed 8 Hogs yesterday the 23rd 25th Stayed at home myself my wife went to Mrs Hunts

26th went to see Robt & Mrs McCullock Grastys Mrs Farmer etc etc as School Commissioner - etc

27 Rode all day as School Comr. & finished

28th Raining this morning moderate weather

29th cleared off cool

30th Halled wood & Cut in new ground Henry has been sick most one week

31st Finished Thursday & friday in Christmas getting last of Indigent children as S. Commissioner Snowed last night & we are striping Tobacco

1851 Janry 1st cleared off cool striping Tobacco that come out of the House the top Blowed off in fresh ground - expect to get done that to day — I went to Mrs Colemans & Yates yesterday to hire Jas The Snow is about Two Inches Deep

2nd Sent Fed to mill 5 Bushels wheat for chop 1½ Bbls corn for meal & ½ Bbl for overseer & to get a Bag Cotton at mill

7th Fine weather cutting in snow nearly gonenew ground Halling wood for Mr. Neale ½ day with cart Written to Mr Roach respecting Miss Milly Ann McCullock Land, & wrote a notice forwarning any persons from trespassing on it & offering it for Rent - or lease etc etc Halled Leaves & straw about this time

11 Burning & finishing Plant Bed on mountain & sewed it. 19 yds square cutting & pressin= 2 more to barn next week

14th Burnt Plant Bed at House & sewed it Kentucky Bull face Tobacco seed & white mustard seed sewed - in that one The one below new ground Big Brittle [Glen?] & Mr McCullocks sort mustard also same sort Tobacco seed sewed on mountain Fine weather this day going to have Land surveyed for Wm Waller ——failure

15 went to Danl Johns Sale bot 5 Boxes wafers 1 stretcher 1 wheat sieve 1 whip 2 slates

20th been cutting in new ground waggon & Cart Halled wood saturday, Thursday & friday— Plowed Tobacco Lot etc nearly done grubbing Henry sick in House with Jaw ach

24 Sold to John D Hunt a Tract of Land adjoining him containing 195 acres more or less for $600 payable in 1, 2 & 3 years from this day $200 in each paymt & carriage & Harness cover & Rench[wrench] etc. for said land rating the carriage & Harness at $190 making $790 for the land 195 acres more less right to be made & Bond given shortly as pr Recd given him for $1 in pt of Do pr Rect———cutting & Plowing etc etc

27 As pretty weather as I ever saw this time in year Plowing & Cutting in newground

28th Tooke down some Tobacco in Prize House tho not much cleared of windy & Cool this morning

29th quite cool windy weather cutting & Plowing

30 cant Plow waggon & cart Halling wood, cuttingin new ground Tremendous cool at this time & windy—

31 still cold Halling Rails around mountain field & fresh field this day Lila breaking flax cutting in new ground overseer broke his axis

Feby 3rd Raining this morning striped Tobacco awhile & then we halled leaves all day after weather more moderate had 4 or 5 very cold days 6thLambs to this day lost only one —

6th cutting in new ground all hands yesterday or day before Halled shucks Fodder & Oats beautifull weather to day ——

7th Plowing in fresh field. Jane & alse in new & childrenground Henry overseer Fed & myself went to Raise school House

8th Henry gone to Mr Parham Lewis s to Roll Logs Fed & overseer gone to school House Jane alse & Jordan gone to new ground.— Fine weather weather warm ———

9th Went to Meeting tolerable good day

10. Raining a little, taking down Tobacco & striping in middle Barn — Rainy evening F.WF. & Cate gone with her homethis morning Weather warm Jacob gone to bring horse home Made John D Hunt a Deed for Land near him JW Odaniel here cleaning & fixing Turner clock for which I gave him $1 - Raining hard took down all our Tobacco to strip

13th Plowing & malling, began to mall yesterday yesterday I went to Mrs McCullocks set up 2 Hhd & went to Chalk Level

14th Fed gone to mill 1 Bbl Corn 1 Bbl wheat we are striping Tobacco in middle Barn. Bets Bull calf came 13th- 10 Lambs to this time ^alivelost 6 Raining this morning The 11th I went to finish school house card Fed with Did not finish & give [Ditchie?] Jacob 9¢ Grasty 9¢ & Hendrick 1/6 making 50¢ in all to finish chimny 12th
