The iron in cylinders will be close grained and the valves and pistons different in misture to insure better running and less wear. The general arrangement of design is like blue prints submitted. The throttle will be attached with copper branch pipes with hand wheels all ready for steam pipe to connect upon; the exhaust pipes will also be attached by branch pipes with suitable flange for main pipe. Maine-Two cast iron bends with six hose gatges on each, connected by one 9" and two 7" gates as plans show. Non piping Guages- One water guage attached to each set of pumps and one 12" water guage to be set in engine room when wanted. These pumps will be carefully built and tested here, (Chicago) and when they are started they will be ready for business and hard fire service. They are beyond experiment and fully guarenteed. References The "Chas F Elmes" pumps as herein described are fully guarenteed for fire service on slat water. Cast Iron pumps, lines with suitable bronze composition are used all over the world and are no experiment The "Elmes" pumps are from 3/4' the 1&1/8" thick and about the only pressure on castings is the suction side and that when standing idle. After using a set of fire boat pumps made in Hudson New York Chicago has bought two sets of "Elmes" pumps for the two additional fire boats. The "Elmes" pumps are also used in the fire boat "Cataract' of Milwuakee We would respectfully refer to Mayor D C Creiger or Chief Swenie of Chicago or Mayor Thos H Brown or Chief Foley of Milwaukee. In your vacinity, we would refer to the owners of the boats "Selwood" and "Cyclone' of Portland Oregon for which we build the propelling engines. Chas F Elmes per HWB Engineer, Founder & Machinist
