1856 Sept 8th Mr Wyatt Came again this morning worming & succoring Tobacco over to day Kitty & all out once more, Henry with Mr wyatt at work on Barn

13th The first of this week Pulling fodder Tying & put up one stack Blades worming & succoring Tobacco Daubing up & fixing Barns etc washed up & fixed overseers house Sent 2 stacks to mill to day one to Yates for sheeting & one to Dews & got Plank for it, for weaving house, began to rain Thursday night & Rained all night & nearly all day Friday Mr Wyatt worked some Shop made ½ Bushel a door for weaving House etc etc — Henry Jobing there too to day wyatt & Jacob Covered in Jacobs Barn & wyatt getting shinges -

A Sum to be done as follows you have $100 to buy cows Sheep & Hogs So as to get One Hundred Head all put together now tell me How many cows sheep & & Hogs you will get & at what price the sheep you are to give 3/- a ps for the cows $10 ps & the Hogs $4 ps for - give me the answer

91 sheep @ 3/- $45.50 3 cows @$10 30.00 6 Hogs @ 4 25.00 $100.50 3/- too much is as near as you can come

15 To Day pulling fodder at stony p[o]int Stacking fodder this evening caught in rain about 2 stacks - brot home our bull this morning – red steer out yet.

16th worming & succorig Tobacco in morning Henry & Wyatt covered weaving House Began & Cut Branch Tobacco this day. Mr Adams moved here to day from Mr John D Hunts

Who moved him and he has him to find till christmas, I give him at the rate of $125 pr year I have to pay Mr Hunt at that rate from this day 17th day of Sep[tember] When he begins to work for me —

17 Sept fixing to Cut Tobacco, etc worming & succoring fresh ground Tobacco Mr W Adams Sets in to work for me this day Protracted meeting going on at S. S. M. H. cloudy & like for Rain, —

18th Cutting & hanging Tobacco in fresh ground and tying up & stacking fodder — meeting going on all this week at S S M H 10 or 11 mourners Mr Witherington with us

21st Great meeting at Strait Stone some 8 or ten professed & to day 7. I think Baptised by Bro. Maran Bro Witherington with us none has given in that professed at this meeting yet

22nd Julia Boyd came here yesterday to go to meeting Sent her home this morning – Housing Tobacco in new prize Barn to day Pulling fodder not quite done put 3 or 400 stacks of Tobacco in new prize Barn -

23 Housing Tobacco this morning – cloudy & like for rain —

24th Cut & Piled Tobacco all day

25th Cut Piled Tobacco all day & finished all the ripe Tobacco, no frost to bit tho 2 mornings Smart frost & quite Cool

26th Hanging Tobacco to day & typing up fodder Fair & cool, my wife Started up to Fannies & I sent Clem to stay till next Tuesday 30 Kate has been complaining ever since she went to Bottetourt about 4th Inst Sept 1856

27th Hanging Tobacco in Lot & as busy as we have been all the week Adams has not hung any Tobacco at night or tyed up any [water stain]

27th Sept weather moderated a little clear good weather, have only housed one House Tobacco yet and that is cured nearly -

29 like for rain gathered apples this morning worming & succoring Tobacco over, Henry & Jordan cutting stacks & going to Mill Dews & yates Jordan carrd 2 Bags 1 Bbl Corn & 1 Log to yates for Sheeeting Henry card 2 to Dews 1 20 & 1 16 feet

30th Sept Fine rain last night & evening ¬ Housing Tobacco in Lot as Tobacco scaffold fell down, Jordan Halled Load wood. My young Red Steer Out yet. got up Bull Henry got last evening 12 Plank from Mr Dews Saw Mill for 2 we card 1 20 feet & 1 16 feet long 1 Big & the other Tolerable –

Oct 1st Cutting & Piling Tobacco for frost & finished all we have –

2nd To day Housing, filled nearly 5 Houses full gathered pumpkins Digging Irish Potatoes - etc etc ¬ Filled 5 Houses of Tobacco - 5258 stacks hung up all together, firing at this time ¬red Irish Potatoes fine balance sorry - - - — Put my He sheep with the flock yesterday

3rd Oct Firing Tobacco Halling wood to Barns & Stacking Our Tops at this time Jacob has gone to Meadsville to day - - and expect to finish tops began yesterday. warm weather weather very cold about wednesday last & we ¬¬–– Turned in & cut all our Tobacco & now its very moderate weather Kate at school we understand is getting well

4 Finished Toping stacks sent Log to yates 14 long 4½ Bus for ourselves 2 Bushels wheat for overseer & 2½ Bus wheat for Mr Thos J Boyd

5th Fine day Sunday – Jacob gone to Meadsville

6 Henry started to Lynchg with upwards of 40 Bushels wheat, wheat weighed 62 & 64 lbs [water stain] Bushel

1856 6 Oct Hanging Tobacco this morning Firing Tobacco Barn Back of Garden & Mount[ain] Spring Barn about this time we are weaning Our Mule Colt did not finish hanging Tobacco last night and very much injured in the lot, by stacking adams stayed with the hands till about Supper he left & did not come back to see any more about hanging & Tobacco injuring every hour fine morning & day —

7 We are hanging Tobacco in lot, firing 2 Barns, Adams Comes Out Soon enough of Morning but will not do any thing at night nor see about the hands at all Lowry gone to Mill after Bag of meal & carried 2 Bushels wheat for flour Halling tobacco to Mountain Barn, etc Hang leaves picking Out Cotton – This morning I told Mr adams I wished him halled in Tobacco first at Stoney & Come to Lot at house & then fresh ground & new ground last instead of [th?] he left lot for last he halls - & Just getting done

8th Halling Tobacco till 12 oclock firing Moun =tain Spring Barn & mountain pulling corn at Stoney pint & expect to hall it up this evening

9th Henry come home last night in 3 days to Lynchg bringing 14 Bags Guano 1 Bbl Bacon & F. wyatts Box & started again this morning to Lynchg again I am going Firing mountain Barn halling up Corn at stoney pint & then cutting down & stac[king] Corn to sew wheat. Hallling up shingles etc

12 We have been 2 trips to Lynchg this week & Carrd 75 or 80 Bushels wheat sold it for 7/6 & $1.30 Fired mountain Barn of Tobacco Cutting down & stack[ing] Corn to sew wheat.

12th Oct 1856 Halled up & shucked out corn at mountain fine clear weather

13th Sent waggon & cart, Twice to Dews saw mill to day 2 log for Joist for Porch 16- 2 Do 14 or 15. for Sheeting - Sent 2 Turns Corn for meal, clear day Toping succors for to Cut. gathering peas etc Snaps seed etc etc adams & Jacob gone to Harmony to Barbacue load for 2 Logs Cart carried etc brot back sheeting last,

14 Raining this morning we put our little Tobacco in Barn a little before day fired all the tobacco Barns & then shoemaking Making Brooms basket etc etc making Gate from 12 oclock till night we shelled some corn & Kitty spining etc etc – Very cool & windy Rained all day & still continues to night. Jacob making himself a pair of shoes himself, cold weather

15. Rained & snowed last night, quite cold Snow light, Raining a little this morning Shoemaking spining etc etc Halled up stack old oats & only 1 Load wood, I went to Riceville Rained a little & quite cold all day – =Give Sandy & Clem Blankets to day & Kitty Abram Lowry & Claiborne & Lila Blanket to day

16 Kitty & alse spining Sandy & Fed Shoemaking & mending Henry sick overseer went to new Barn & worked awhile & it commenced raining again & he went back to shop to work on Gate pt of 3 days this week, I went to see capt Gilbert, he is sick - rough week & very cool -

17th This day rained nearly all day shoemaking & mending spining & worked some in shop very Cold Rain disagreeable time, - - - - -

21st went to Court yesterday began to Sew wheat, cutting down corn, Wyatt at work on Barn Me Mr Adams my overseer has parted this morning I give him 2 mos wages & 2 Bushels corn & we are off as he don't suit suit me
