A good day. Ben and Owen plowed some.

Josie ironed.

I got dinner. Had turnip salet for dinner the last that we will get this spring I expect.

We heard that the Edmons boys killed their dogs this morning.

I know they was sorry to have it to do.

I wrote to John Brumfield to day.

Tuesday November 22, 1921

A very good day. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco. Josie helped to tie some this evening. Josie got dinner and scrubed the dining room floor. Marvin moved two loads of hay to his home near Gretna. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Mollie was sewing. Lizzie Bennett come here this evening and as I was not at home she come to Johnsons. She eat supper there. I thought I would stay until bed time but Ben come for me. I was glad to ride home. Lizzie brought me two nice pumpkins. I am so glad of them. Mollie gave me some turnip greens. I glad of that. Hope to enjoy them.

Wednesday December 14, 1921

A windy day. Very disagreeable. Ben and Ben hauled some leaves and put in the stable. Alcie Callands washed here today. The clothes most blowed a way. I got them this evening. I have staid at home all day to day. We had turnip salid for dinner and sweet potatoes. Tonight there is two men here say they are Mormon preachers. We dreaded them but they are very pleasant. The children went to school. Josie commenced to change her dress this evening. I comenced to make some sheets. Tonight I have read. Did not try to work any. It is now nearly ten oclock and I must go bed. Oh how I miss Carrie.

Thursday, March 18, 1920

A good day. The best that we have had this year. The boys finished sawing wood for Marvin this morning then put on the plant bed cloths. Jim Emerson passed here to day. Henry & Edna went to school to day. I got dinner. Josie ironed. This evening we all went to Carries a while. I come by the turnip patch & cut some sallet for dinner to morrow. It looks like rain tonight. I do hope it wont rain.

Monday, March 22, 1920

A beautiful day. Ben split wood at the wood pile. He fixed up the clothesline and the garden palings. Jim come home just at night. He come with Odie Kelly from Gretna. Josie washed and then went to Carries. I went to Carries two. Caried some butter for Kate Harvey. I come by the turnip patch and cut some salit. Tonight the boys & Marvin has gone to Strait Stone. There is a light in the north tonight.

A good day. The boys worked on their new ground. Mr Owen plowed. I got the most of dinner this evening. I made some soap then went to Marvins. Come by the turnip patch & cut salit for tomorrows dinner. Josie made a waist for Henry. The baby has bin very cross this evening. Franklin is well and plays all the time. The children went to school.

A good day. Cloudy this evening. Ben & Jim finished cleaning up the logs that come out of the olde house. Jim made a cage for chickens. Ben ditched. Irvin Harvey brought his calf here to pasture. Kate come a few minutes. Carrie come with her. We all went to the turnip patch. Josie carried little Mabel. The other children went to Marvins. My clock has stoped running.

Cloudy nearly all day. Ben and Mr Mayhew went to the island for guano. Mayhew hauled 4 [?] loads for the boys with his truck. Jim plowed in his new ground this evening. He plowed some in the garden and planted some things in the garden. Josie got dinner. She baked a cake. Henry & Edna went to school. This evening Josie & the children and I went to Marvins. I cut some turnip greens. Henry went to Aunt Kates after some peas.

A good day. Jim & Mr Owen finished plant tobacco. Ben replanting his. Marvin and his crowd went to Kates and helped Irvin finish planting his crop. I drawed a few plants. Josie got dinner and made Ben a shirt. We cooked turnip salit for dinner and had corn bread. I did enjoy it. I got an invatation to the school at Charlottsvill. Bruce Reynolds sent it. 9 oclock

A good day. Ben & Jim worked in their tobacco until noon then they sowed a turnip patch and worked in tobacco some more. Josie got dinner and ironed. Reese carried Henry and I fishing. We caught several fish. I could not dig for bait. Josie got them for me. I wore her nice watch the first one that I ever wore. Bettie Haley washed here today. She had a boy to help her. I went to Mr Owens this evening. Henry has bin sick all day.

A good day. The men folks moved tobacco. Josie helped them all the evening. Josie got dinner. She cooked snaps and turnip salit. I went to see Mr Owens baby this morning. They called the Dr to see it. He is very sick. I went to see Sarah Emerson this evening. Henry & Hellen Brumfield went. Reese Smith carried us. He is a good driver. I eat supper with Carrie to night. Jim is at the barn tonight.

A good day. Clouds a round but no rain here. The men folks moved tobacco all day. Ben has gone to Marvins tonight. Josie got dinner. She cooked turnip salit. We did enjoy it. I picked beans most of the day. Went to Carries a few minutes and to the pea patch. Picked a basket full and what I could cram in my apron. Josie has a colde and cough. 8 oclock

A cloudy day. Jim & Ben worked on their plant beds. Elick Gibbon got in some wood for us today. Josie got dinner. She cooked turnip salit. It certainly was good. The children went to school. I went to Kate Harveys. I spent a pleasant day. Kate was ironing. Virginia was at home most of the time. Dr. Owen & Clack Hubbard went hunting. Johnson & Jim Thomson was hunting. I will be glad when they cant hunt birds any more. 10 oclock at night.

A bad day. Hailed & snowed and rained all day. Hailing now 8 oclock at night. The men folks fed the stock and made fires. Ben & Josie milked. I churned and got dinner. We had turnip salit & poached eggs. Nellie & Jim brought the sallit from Chatham. We were very glad of it. Henry & Edna went to school. Mabel has cried a lot all the morning. Was better all the evening. Nellie was complaining all evening. Hope she will soon be teethed.

A rainy morning. Clear tonight and the wind blowing and colde. Jim & Ben did not do any work this morning. This evening they cut some. Josie & I got dinner. We had turnip greens & potatoe sallid. Henry and Edna went to school.

Mrs Booker come a few minutes this evening. She swapped some eggs to set. Mrs Car churned for me this morning. Mabel is not sleepy to night but I am.

A good day. Ben & Jim worked on the garden fence all the morning. This evening they helped cut wood at Mag Brumfields. They went on the car. I went with them. I went to Kates and then we went to Mags. I saw Doris & Virginia & Hellen. They all looked very nice. I got dinner at home. We had turnip salit. We have had good neighbors to send us salid. Hattie Gilbert washed here today. Josie baked a cake today as nice as one could wish. Mag had a very nice dinner today. I eat some with her this evening.

A colde windy day.Ben went to the Mill at Level Run. Jim went to Chatham. He went with Norman Booker to Gretna. Ben worked a round the house all the evening. Henry went to Mr. Woodings and got some turnip salit. Josie got dinner. She has bin very [pert?pent] to day and I am glad. I hemed one quilt today. We all went to Mr. Booker's this evening. Mrs Jackson and Mrs Less Bookers was there. We had a pleasant evening. It is so colde tonight that we have fire like winter time.

A good day. Ben fined tobacco all day. Jim sowed some turnip see[d] this evening. Mr Mills and his hands worked the road to day and put in a new bridge. Queen[ie] Callans washed for us today the first time. I got dinner. I cooked turnip [salit?] the first I ever cooked in August. Mollie Reynols & Thelma Brumfield walked here this evening. Johnson & Reubin come for Molly in the car. Thelma staid all night here. I am glad that she did.

A good day. The men worked on the tobacco until twelve. This evening Ben carried the children and I to White Falls. I fished some. Caught four little fish. The river was very mudy. It had bin all out of the banks. Mr Johnson & Roach[?] was at work to get the things out that had washed in the mill so that they could not grind. Sarah & Billie Emerson come to night. I am glad to see Sarah. We had turnip salit for dinner to day.

A beautiful day. Jim and Ben staid at home all day. Lizzie was here. she helped me get dinner. We cooked Turnip salit and a chicken. We had a nice cake. Today was Mabel's Birth day. She is three years olde. This evening Ben & Elsie East & Gladis Brumfield come a few minutes. Tim Bennett & Gordon & [Chesley?] Bennett & a Mr Hedrick come by for Lizzie. I did hate for her to go home as we have not got any body to help to do the work here now.

A cloudy and some rain. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco. Tobacco is very high in order. Josie has bin suffering all day to day. Ben went to Hutchersons for tablets that they got at Gretna. The children went to school. Nellie and I got dinner. We cooked peas and turnip salit & baked potatoes. I went to the barn for the first time since the tobacco was cured. Fanny Power went home. We miss her so much. Mabel had a nap of sleep today and she cant go to sleep tonight.

A good day. Ben hauled some wood this morning & worked on his wheat land this evening. Jim & Nellie stripped tobacco all day. Bettie and I got dinner. We cooked turnip & peas and potatoes. This evening I cut the Morning Glorie vine off of the garden fence and then went to Renan & to see Kate Harvey carrie the money to pay my taxes. Mr Mayhew was at the store on his machine and brough me home. I was glad that I did not have to walk. Ben & Jim is at the barn putting tobacco in the pit.

Saturday, March 24, 1923

A good day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Then Ben and Nellie and I went to Straitstone. We bought some things. We come home and I got dinner. Oscar and Effie and Hellen and Hilda and Miss Finch come for some flowers. They would not stay for dinner. After dinner Ben and I went to Gretna. Come home by Johns Saw Tenier a few minutes then went to Curries. Found them all well. Got a lot of turnip greens. Got home o.k. Nellie had made her a dress and killed a chicken. Dressed it. Lelia Ward churned while I was gone. Henry is sick tonight.

A good morning. Rain this evening. Ben worked on the truck most of the day. He went to Srait Stone for some bolts. He let all of the children go. Jim sowed some turnip seed and got up some potatoes. Alma got most of the dinner. We had snaps and butter beans and corn. The first that we have had this season. Alma made me two aprons this evening and changed Ednas dress. Alma went to Blains this evening to spend the night. I will miss her so much when she goes home and she intends going soon. Franklin has bin complaining all the evening.

A good day. They finished cutting tobacco.The tobacco that was planted the first of July. Johnson Reynols put some in the barn with them. Cardie and Nettie Hendrix and Louise the[y] come and went back this morning. Nellie and I got dinner. We cooked turnip salit and corn bread. We did enjoy it. Louise and Herbert and Margaret Hutcherson come and played with the children a while. Ben and Henry has gone hunting tonight. Evylin is at the [kitchen?] tonight. Said she was going to wash [?]. I went to Mr. Booker's for snaps this evening.

A cloudy day and rain this evening. The men moved some tobacco and have fires under most all the barns. The tobacco is high in order. Nellie and I got dinner. The children and I pulled grass from among the turnips. This evening Evylin and I walked over to Blains. We had a pleasant evening. There was no one at home but Denia. She was as pleasant as could be. I got two pounds of butter. Sallie and Isla and Cordie was at Ernest's to see Lottie.

A good day. Ben worked on his tobacco all day. Jim was making a hog pen. Nellie got dinner. The children and I pulled grass out of the turnip patch. We finished that job. Carrie and the chldren brought Janie home and come to see us a little while. I come home with them. Had a good trip. The road is awful from Gretna to Marvins. Hope they will work it soon before I go home.

A good day. Jim and Henry and John Ward cut corn. Ben helped Lee with his books. Henry has gone up there tonight. Evelin and Edna washed the dishes tonight. Nellie did not come home today. There was an ice cream party at Edge Hill this evening. I worked on the turnip patch some a gain this evening. I sowed some seed on it. Hope to live to see what it will make. I gathered some butter beans this evening. They are getting a few and far between. The children and I got potatoe vines for the cows tonight.

A good day. Ben worked on the drill all the morning. Got it work [sic] so he could make it do. He finished [?] the field around the straw stacks. Jim stripped tobacco. All of them are tying tonight. The[y] put some on Mr Bookers waggon this evening to go to Gretna in the morning. The children went to school. Nellie nursed most of the day. I got dinner. I cooked turnip salit and potatoes. I gathered some butter beans this evening and dug and washed some sweet potatoes. Tonight I have bathed thinking I may to to Danville in the morning with the Reynolds.

A rainy morning. The men folks did not do any thing of any account until evening. They picked up some corn and put it in sacks. The children went to school. There is a play over there tonight. Ben and the children has gone all but Mabel. She is a bed and a sleep. Edna eat supper at John Hutcherson's tonight. [E]Ula Mayhew and Gladis Owen was there two. I wrote to Kate Harvey. Wrote part of one to Carrie Smith. Nat passed so early that I did not get it in the mail. Jim sent a box of turnip greens to Ruben's today.
