These 24 hours began with fresh winds
from the Sth E ward. Ship under all sail.
Steering by the wind to the SW ward.
Saw sperm whales. At 1 PM it began to rain. Furled our royals.
Middle and latter part light airs at 9 AM.
Saw sperm whales. Lored [Lowered] and chased
but did not strike. So goes no Obs

21 Saturday Thursday the 16th

Began with light breezes from
the SE ward. Employed in chasing
sperm whales. Got up and the boatsteer
missed hur [her]. Middle and latter part fresh
winds with frequent rain squalls.
At 8 AM spoke with a brig from Haver
degrace [Havre de Grace, Maryland?] bound Guadeloop. Hands employed
in makeing scrub brushes and other sundry
jobs as occasion required. So ends all well.

22 Sunday the 17th
Began with fresh trades which lasted
through out the day. Ship under all
sail. Steering S by W be [by] compass. Saw
a brig a head. Steering by the wind to
the SE ward. At noon saw a whale
to the leeward a breaching. Kept off
but saw her no more. The day being
the Sabbath no labour done more than
occasion required. So ends Lat obsd
