October 19, 1950 To: Miss Cavanah From: Miss A.G. Mahoney Re: Germaine Deraney

Just after the basketball game last evening - whil much commotion was going on in the Gym re: sneakers and cigarettes Germaine walked out through the Front Office with the Hodder girls.

Miss Markey called me and I called to her to come back - when I saw she wouldn't I w ent after her but she flew through the tall grass. I returned to institution and notified Local and State Police.

Mr. Rao returned from Hodder and along with Miss Devine we went in the general direction she had taken. We found her once more but she ran and we could not catch her. I did not get near enough to tell her that she might see the Board and how foolish she was being - she just kept on running and said she "didn't believe anyone up there."

Miss Snow, Mr. Fox, Mrs. Watson, Miss Devine, Mr. Rao, Miss Keefe and Miss M. Lee all prowled the area with no success.

February 7, 1957 Mrs. Doris Jones 97 Church {Street} Pittsfield, Mass

{Doctor} Miriam Van Waters {Superintendent} c/o Box 99 Framingham, Massachusetts

My Dear Mrs. Van Waters: I am writing a few lines to express our sorrow in learning of your grave illness in the past. We are in great hopes that you have recovered from your operation, and are now enjoying the best of health at home, and with the ones you hold so dear to your heart.

Will you not at your convenience extend my best wish to the entire staff of officers in Framingham.

In the Berkshires we so far have had quite a bit of snow and cold weather, especially cold at nights. In fact you may have read in the paper a very short time ago where it was 44° below zero in pittsfield and my home town of hinsdale which is but 12 miles distance.

If you could only see how the two children Thomas and Leroy have grown since you saw them last, and the little baby has six teeth and tried to talk, I sent you a photo of him.

Mrs. Van Waters, believe me please, I'm awful sorry that I've got to request your assistance, because I've always hated to ask for help. I have a Very grave problem no one to turn to, our only hope is your kindness and understanding and helping hand. If no assistance arrives, than God alone only knows what will happen, and both me and my husband worry over the children and are doing everything in our power for the little ones.

{Doctor} my husband is out of work due to no work in pittsfield. Every single factory here is slack, and laying off help, the General Electric has layed off hundreds, the U.S. Employment office is open, but not one job. my husband has walked the streets in zero weather, begging nearly for work, any kind
