Mary Ruth Slaton diary, 1938 - 1940

[Left] February 5 Sat. 1938. Got a letter from Mother. Rex, Uncle Brock & I wen't to town today. Rex & I got Uncle Brock a new hat & pocket book for his birthday.

1939. Sun. Stayed at home all day. Earl Junior wen't home this morning. Earl Junior & a Moore boy came this afternoon. Earl Junior will stay all night.

1940. Mon. Uncle Brock & I washed today. Rex wen't to town.

[Right] February 6 Sun. 1938. Uncle Brock is 81 years old today. It rained this morning. Uncle Brock & I wen't to Mr. Slaton's this afternoon.

1939. Mon. I hemmed a tea towel & embroidered it also and have done the general house work.

1940. Tue. Uncle Brock is 83 years old today. I canned 3 gallons of sausages. Uncle Brock helped me sack 5 sacks. Rex & I gave Uncle Brock a shirt for his birthday

[Left] February 7 Mon. 1938. Uncle Brock & I washed & I set out some flowers in the yard & embroidered a little. Read some tonight.

1939. Tue. Earl Junior & Rex wen't to town. Uncle Brock & I washed. Joe come home with Rex & June cooked supper. We played Rook tonight.

1940. Wed. I got most of my ironing done today

[Right] February 8 Tue. 1938. I ironed this morning & mended part of the clothes & wen't to Mrs. Rogers this afternoon. She is going to fix my brown coat shorter & make over my skirt also.

1939. Wed. Rex has been hauling corn today. Earl Junior wen't home today. He is feeling bad. I ironed today.

1940. Thu. Finished ironing, mended some clothes & fixed the lace on a scarf I aim to give Mother. Basil ate dinner with us today.

[Left] February 9 Wed. 1938. John Marion & Joe ate dinner with us they are helping Rex finish strip tobacco & load it. Uncle Brock & I worked out in the yard this afternoon & tore down the back yard fence.

1939. Thu. Joe wen't home this afternoon. I have done the general house work & embroidered some.

1940. Fri I fixed the lace on a scarf, canned 1/2 gallon of Rib and worked on my story some.

[Right] February 10 Thu. 1938. It has rained today. Rex wen't to town with his last load of tobacco. Uncle Brock & I wen't to Pleasant View today & I wen't to Mothers & Dad's & will spend the night. The roads were pretty bad.

1939. Fri. I hemmed a sheet and have done the general house work. Rex wen't to Mr. Slaton's this afternoon.

1940. Sat. I mended some clothes & have done the general house work. It snowed this afternoon.

[Left] February 13 Sun. 1938. Stayed at home all day nothing happened unusual.

1939. Mon. Uncle Brock & I washed today. I hemmed a sheet this afternoon.

1940. Tue. I sewed some today & ironed some.

[Right] February 14 Mon. 1938. I have embroidered some today & have done the general house work. Rex wen't to town. Got a card from Alyene Rogers.

1940. Wed. I sewed some today & have done the general house work.

[Left] February 15 Tue. 1938. It has rained nearly all day. Uncle Brock & I washed. John & Alma came today.John is making me a cedar chest. Rex layed part of the floor in Uncle Brock's room but didn't have enough lumber to finish it.

1939. Wed. I finished ironing, mended the clothes & have done the general house work.

1940. Thu. I have done the general house work. Nothing happened unusual.

[Right] February 16 Wed. 1938. I have felt bad today. I ironed & have done the general house work & wrote Mother. Rex fixed the Kitchen hearth this morning.

1939. Thu. I wen't to Mrs. Rogers this afternoon & got my hair cut. I tried to do some sewing but couldn't sew so well as I couldn't manage her machine.

1940. Fri. I cleaned up the house and have done the general house work.
