Sir:

I had the honor to acknowledge
the receipt this day of your letter of date
June 12th ult ordering an appointment of the improvements
of the settlers in Hoopa Valley as [illegible]
by an act of Congress approved March 3rd 1865
[entitled?] [on?] not to amend an [act?] entitled an
act tp [illegible] for the letter organisation [organization] of Indian
affairs in California and a separate [appraisment?]
of such personal property of said settlers as
may be necessary to purchase for the use of the
Reservation in said Valley, also the accompanying
letters [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] letters.

I had made arrangements to leave tomorrow
morning with Hon Wm [Name] [member?] of the
Committee on Indian Affairs on a [illegible] of inspection
of the Reservation in the Southern part of the
State, and [illegible] to make arrangements with
the [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] at Hoopa Valley
and discharge the duties [illegible] in [your?]
letter, [illegible] I return again to this office

I desire for the good of the Reservation as
well as justice to the settlers an early adjustment
of [illegible] claims for their improvements
