What is the relationship between Bochom, Chercher Confort, and Jean Tomasson? On this page, Chercher Confort reports her "nom age qualité et demure" (name age occupation and residence) as Chercher Confort, 50, nurse (possibly?), and Creole of Jamaica. Also on this page, the notary says that the interpreter says that Bochom says that "il n'avoit que une chemise a Luy que Le Reste appartenoit a La Negresse et a Ses enfans" ("he doesn't have more than one shirt that belongs to him that the rest belongs to the Black woman and to her/their children"). The articles are confusing here. Is the negresse/Black woman he's talking about Chercher Confort, the woman who was on the boat with him? When the notary says "la negresse et ses enfants" does the "ses" in "ses enfants" mean Bochom's children? Or the woman's children? Or both their children? In any case, Jean Tomasson is recognized by the notary as the child of Chercher Confort, as son fils.
