the term, proceeded to choice of officers according to the constitution. TC Sweetner was elected President, B. Coolidge vice president, H.B. Coles, Librarian, Messrs Bannister and Coles to propose candidates for admission to the Society and H. Callahan to take care of the lights and to ring the bell. Voted. That the sum of 50 cents be paid as a regular sum for taking care of the lights and ringing the bell. It was prooposed to the Society that Mr Callahan should buy the Life of Columbus in the vacation rejected on the ground that there was not sufficient money in the treasury. As there was no further business before the Society, the Ex President delivered an address according to constituion. Adjourned to 2d Wednesday in the Winter term.

Dec. 9th Met according to Adj and performed as usual. Voted that four new lamps be bought. Mr Wilson was voted into the society. As there was no other business before the Society the meeting was closed.

Dec 16th Met as usual, voted that there should be a dialogue a fortnight from this night. Also voted that the members should sign a petition requesting Mr Adams to permit them speak. Mr Bell requesting a dismission from the Society on account of ill health, it was granted. Mr Faulkner was voted into the society. There being no other business before the Society the meeting was closed.

Dec 23. Met and performed as usual. Adjourned.

Dec 30. Met and performed as usual resolved that the Presdt should give out the dialogue according to his direction, and that the parties concerned should write or select the dialogue as they pleased. Adj.

January 6th 1830. Met and performed as usual voted that Mr Spencer should admitted [sic] into the Society. Also that Tasso's Jerusalem should be bought. Adjourned.

Jan 13th. Met and performed as usual Adj.

Jan 20 Met and performed as usual voted that the Social Fraternity should not be invited into the Society the last meeting but one. Adj.

Jan. 27 Met and performed as usual Adjourned.

1830 February 4. Met and chose Seth Bannister, President, Benj. Kingsbury, Jr. Vice President; Fredk Dean, Librarian, Mr. Callaghan to take care of the lights , ring the Bell, cook the supper. Messrs. Cowles and Spencer to nominate members for the Society. Voted. That the "Journal of Health", be taken by this Society. Voted, That the thanks of this Society, be presented to the former President and Vice President for their faitful and disinter[ested]

[disinter]ested services during the past Term. Voted, That the the sum due from Mr. Coffin to this Society be remitted. Voted, That the time of opening this Society, be changed according to the variation of the School hours. Voted, That books from the Library be taken out of town during the vacations, by those who may then desire to peruse them; and also, that if the books while from the town are injured, the fines for such injuries be decided by the President. The former Vice President having presented his Report for the last Term. Voted, That said Report be accepted. The Society after having listened with great pleasure to a very animated address from the Ex President - adjourned.

March 3. The Society met as usual. After the performances, the following resolutions were passed: Resolved. That the time of opening the meeting be at ½ past 6 o'clock. Resolved. That a publication called "The Essayist", issued

at Boston, once a fortnight, at $1 per year, be taken by this Society; and provided the money in the Treasury should not be sufficient to pay the amount necessary, the deficiency shall be made up by a tax upon each member. Resolved. That Mr. Morgan be appointed to take charge of "The Journal of Health", and "The Essayist" and to see that they are carefully preserved. Resolved, That a lock be purchased for the Library David Coggin was admitted as a member.

March 10. Society met and performed as usual. After the excercises the following persons were voted into the Society; Messrs Stevens, Ingalls & Swift. Resolved. That there shall be written critisisms [sic] of compositions, to constitute a part of the exercises, presented the next regular evening after such compositions shall be read.

[March] 17. Society met and performed as usual. After the exercises the following resolutions were passed. Resolved. That Waker's last Dictionary be taken by this Society as the criterion of critisims.

Resolved. That a respectful request be transmitted to the Social Fraternity by the Vice President, for permission to have the Library in the Room which contains theirs. Resolved, That Mr. Callaghan be appointed Librarian, and that he be considered accountable for injury done to the Social Fraternity's Library (in case our request be granted.) Resolved, That the meeting begin henceforth at ¼ past 7 o'clock. Resolved, That books be taken from the Library once a fortnight, at such days and hours as shall be most convenient to the Social Fraternity.

March 24. After the usual performances, it was Resolved, That Mr. Phillip's be admitted as a member. A respectful affirmative reply was read at the close of the meeting from the Social Fraternity in respect to the Library. Wilson Ingalls was admitted into the Society.
