Dear Mr Buchan

I am not sure if I should say
Lord Tweedsmuir as yet, but in any
case you must let me express the
delight with which I heard that you
had chosen a title from a parish dear
and familiar to you in long-ago days.
It is truly a romantic and sweet-
sounding name, and I trust you will
long adorn it. I met you first in, I
think, 1895 or 1896, at Broughton. I
had compiled, in 1893, a volume on the
"Ministrelsy of the Merse," and we talked over
this and other literary matters. You
urged me to attempt a novel dealing
with the Covenanters, but writing fiction
