Camp Evans Adams Run Aug 14th 1862 Dear Wife I reed yours of 9th inst day before yesterday I was very glad to hear [you?] were doing so well and the baby growing so fast I am glad to hear he is such a good child I hope you will continue to im prove and you and the baby keep well I was very sorry to hear Peter was so sick I heard he was better monday I hope he will be well soon you did not write whether he was confined to his bed or not and I cant find out I hope you will write all the particulars about him You have no idea how much uneasiness I suffer about him I heard John B died on saturday I am very sorry to hear it

I feel very sory for the fam ily Martha tell Leucinda for me that I believe John was a christian from the conversation we have had at different times he was one of the best young men in camp he was admired by all who knew him the com pany all regrets his loss very much I also am very sorry to hear of the death of Joseph McCullough I feel very sorry for his wife and little children I have no news of interest to write at present the most of the sick arches got well enough to go home and the balance are improving except one his name is McCuen he is out of head all the time he is a nice young man I dont think he can live but a day or two longer I hate to see him suffer

My Dear I still keep well and and feel very thankful to my maker for it I pray to God for health and hope I will keep well You wrote that you were going to send me some provisions by John Campbell we have a good deal of bacon yet we cant keep it from get ting scippers and bugs and worms in it I had rather you would not send any bacon for a while we draw some bacon we get plenty of beef I have not eat but one mess of beef since I left home I wish I had some good peaches and apples they sell very high down here and are not very good at that William Garrison is still sick in the hospittle he is some better I think he is the only one we have in the hospittle at this time

all the rest of the connection are well I dont think there is any chance for the regt to be moved from here the col has tried very hard to get it moved but has failed failed to succeed he has tried to get the regt furlowed for thirty days I suppose you have heard it I never wrote any thing about it for I did not want to ecite you about our com ing and then get disappointed I never beleived we would get off in the way he has failed to get us moved to healthy place let alone coming home You must excuse this badly writ ten letter as I have a bad pen. from your devoted husband may God bless us J O Charles is my prayer tell the black people howdy tell Mrs Slaten John is well
