AN ORDINANCE FOR THE BETTER PROMOTION OF THE
PUBLIC HEALTH.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Alderment of
the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by au-
thority of the same, That from the immediately after
the term of fifteen days from the date of this ordinance
it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to have
and maintain any surface privy, vault or sink on any
premises within one square of Main Street in said City,
on either side between North Street and Reedy River.

SEC. 2. Any person or persons violating the provisions of
this ordinance, shall for each offence, upon conviction
thereof before the Mayor, be liable to a fine of not less
than ten nor more than fifty dollars, or to imprison-
ment at the discretion of said Mayor, mot exceeding
thirty days.

Done in Council and ratified the sixth day of June, in the
year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and
[L.S.] ninety-three, and in the hundred and seventeenth
year of the independence of the United States of

AN ORDINANCE DEFINING THE DUTIRES OF CITY ENGINEER
OF THE CITY OF GREENVILLE, S. C.

SECTION 1. The City Engineer shall have power, and it
shall be his duty, to survey within or without the City
as the Council may direct. He shall keep within his of-
fice a complete record of the surveys, and shall make
and keep in his office a full and complete map of the
City, said map to be drawn to a scale sufficiently large
to allow all useful data in conneciton with streets, lanes,
avenues and alleys to be shown, also the size and shape
of each and every lot and block within the City limits,
and any other useful informaiton that may be properly
shown on such a map.
