Bishop Polk

Dear Sir -

I recd. yours of
the 25th and did not reply as I had
written you in answer to yours of
the 19th which I supposed you had
recd. giving you all the information
you desired and have since been
expecting to hear from you -

I have as I stated to you in
my last letter employed a force of
Servants to carry out our design at
the University festival at a cost of
about $300. - for the occasion - I have
hired them by the day as you directed
and I thought best - In accomplishing
this I have been put ot much trouble
and difficulty - your reference in
the first place to Mr. Craighead and
his refusal to assume any responsibility
has embarrassed me procuring
hands and forced me to pay higher
wages than I should otherwise have
to pay - I have now however all
my hands satisfied that you will see
them paid their wages before they leave
