OCTOBER 1919
TUESDAY 28
SS. Simon and Jude
Heavy gale set in during the early part of the morning occassional seas breaking over us. Ship doing barely 8 knots. Dinner time - gale increasing course changed - Innoculated at 2pm. From noon until mid night the gale was at its worst impossible to remain on deck for few minutes.

WEDNESDAY 29
Ran into finer weather. I went down after breakfast to my usual post the Engine room where it is the warmest spot on the boat. I spend practically every morning here, reading. I generally get through one book per day. Today I have a general clean up such as hair cut, shave bath, and do my washing. My whiskers are beginning to grow some now & I expect I shall have to shave fairly frequently when I get home.
