JANUARY 1919 Promoted to Actg / Sgt. R.O 347.5.T.B.

WEDNESDAY 1 Circumcision. Bank Holiday in Scotland Rose 10:30 : G Taylor & I went into London; showed me how overseas troops are entertained. Went to Theatre where we saw "Queen of my heart". Had dinner at Lyons, then returned back to Fairlawn Mansions. During afternoon: George showed me his souvenirs of air raids in vicinity of his home. Yarned until 7 pm at which time we sat down to a ripping dinner. I then bid good bye & set out to King's Cross where I caught tram & met Jim 10.30 to Edinburgh so night was spent in travelling.

THURSDAY 2 Arrived Edinr. 8.30 had shave & brushup, & breakfasted at restaurant in Princes St. Jim & I then strolled around & had look at places of interest. Met Bill, Jack, Dorothy & Micky on 12.35 train from N'cle had dinner at Royal Hotel then proceeded to Edinburgh Castle, where a guide showed us over all places of interest including the Scot. C. jewels. Returned back to Princes St where had supper, then caused great amusement by capsizing in the dining room. After supper tried to get seats at Theatre but failed, so we had a second supper. Then proceeded to Miss Minnie's, obtained room for the girls, & the four of us managed to squeeze into the ancient drawing room.

JANUARY 1919 FRIDAY 3 Turned out at 9.30 had breakfast in town. Party then visited Holyrood Palace. Return back to Station & caught 11.30 train to Newcastle. Jack & Jim remained so as to catch trains to their respective destinations. Arrived N'C about 5 pm & at last saw 107 5:30. The remainder of the night to the early hrs of next morn were spent in sitting around the fire talking & ---. Bill and I had ripping hot bath prior to turning in, it was simply great to be in the dear old feather bed again.

SATURDAY 4 As Micky had to go to the office during the morning: Bill and I went into N'C where we did some business met Micky returned in time for dinner. During afternoon M & I sat around the drawing room fire & afternoon passed away pleasantly. During the night we all went to the Theatre where an enjoyable time was spent. Had supper about 7 pm & turned in about 2 am next morning.

JANUARY 1919 SUNDAY 5 2nd after Christmas

Sunday morning, Fred, Berne Bill & I strolled around the suburbs of N'C returned in time for dinner: Micky & I spent afternoon in house: At night we went to Bertha's place where we had a ripping time.

MONDAY 6 Epiphany

Micky & I went for walk in morning. During the afternoon we remained in the house: Mrs. Forster gave a party that night & we had a ripping time & it was about 3am when we turned in next morning.

JANUARY 1919 TUESDAY 7 All of us went to West Rainton. Bill & I had look over Painting & ship building yards at Peshaw, About 5 pm Mrs? F., Micky & myself caught train to Durham where we caught 8pm train back to N'c.

WEDNESDAY 8 Micky had to go to office today so Dorothy, Bill & I went to Durham. Bill went to see Olive: Dorothy & I went to Cathederal & Castle. We all returned back to N/c 7pm. So after supper Bill & Olive had drawing room fire to selves. Micky & I had breakfast room.

MICKY'S BIRTHDAY JANUARY 1919 THURSDAY 9 Micky called me early & after having breakfast both of us went into the suburbs of N'C as Micky had some business to do. Returned back to city at 10.30; did some shopping & got back to B. Grove in time for dinner. After packing up, we had our last meal & I got wedding ring in girdle cake. Dorothy, Micky Bill & I caught 4.17pm trains to Leeds, arrived at 7.50 caught 8.5 pm train to Dewsbury; arrvd there 8.30pm. Then waited for 9.50 train to Huddersfield; arrvd 10.30; waited 11.30 for connection to Crewe.

FRIDAY 10 Arrived Crewe 17.30 waited until 2.6 am for London Express. Arrvd London 6.30 caught tube to Charing Cross, had breakfast at Canadian YMCA. Met Jack at Lyntch Theatre, wrote letter to Micky. Booked seats at Strand "Scandal" & the Adelphie "The Boy". Secured beds at Grafton Hotel. Tottenham Court Rd. During afternoon went through National Art Gallery; after tea went to "Scandal". We missed bus with result had to walk to Hotel.
