his fancy - giving his reasons for the choice.
He further said what makes peas expensive,
is the space they occupy, the work required,
and the time it takes to pick the pods.
There were many useful directions given
for raising peas.

We were told that Charles [Bond?] has wonderful
success with the long pod Alaska, &
the Telephone.

The April Forethought told us "after an
interval of six months, we are privileged
to meet again with our rakes unbroken."
This is the time she said for the man
& the woman with the hoe to get busy.
Then came the reminders for the coming month.

Her suggestion for those working in the
flower beds, was a good one - have a
board about 1½ ft. long & 1 ft. wide,
under one side nail a [strip?] of wood
