Dear Governor, I informed the [General?] on [yesterday?], that [as?] [expected?] you and Mrs.Stanford here next week, and he expressed a wish to see you. He is [very?] sick with periods of [exaltation?] and depression from the nature of the disease. At this writing, he is somewhat [relieved?], but as [for?] the reaction, I hope you may get here and see him in his better [state?] so that you can [?]. He [tenderly?] [appreciates?] the [prayers?]

I was [near?] to his [inner?] life last [evening?] than at any time since my return and I now seek to lead him into a joyous Christian experience, and I feel sure that your coming will aid in this. Let us pray much for him, he clings to life and [yesterday?] felt that the chances were in his favor; but when he feels that the end draws [nigh?], he will express himself more fully. The family [are?] not confident of his recovery. Please remember us to Mrs.Stanford and accept for yourself our sincere regards.
