between the Hopkins academy of Oakland
and Stanford has been arranged to come
off at eleven o'clock. We were just
playing our third set, which was the
rubber as each of us had gotten one.
The boys decided to umpire and coach
while we finished. Presently Mr.
Anderson and Mr. Lewis came out to
the court also and then we had a
terrible time. The second two boys
came on our side of the court and
coached and called score for us and
the other two performed the same
office for the other side. We girls,
as you can imagine, hardly knew what
we were doing and it was altogether
rather a noisy place.

The ball game was not played
till the afternoon and Stanford won.
It seems a rather brutal game and
does offer excellent opportunity for
maltreatment if the players are so
disposed.

In the evening the girls
decided to have a party just for our
own benefit and so for the first time
since we have been here we donned
our party clothes and tripped the
light fantastic toe and admired each
others gowns and though two important
features of such occasions were
missing (beaux and refreshments) we
had a very pleasant time. It is need-
less to say that my dress was rather
too snug for comfort, but I wore it
just the same, and that little hollow
in the front of my neck no longer
