letter to John Stein which I have
written at the foot of one from his Sister
to him, pony let him have it, I
send it without envelope to save
postage. I cannot write in detail
of our doings now because I have not time and
I do not want to have double
postage to pay. I may say generally
that the crops are magnificent
in Belgium, the harvest being
in full progress, but that the
heaviest are much lodged. The
crops are good hereabouts also
except grapes which are late &
bad. The scenery on the Rhine
is fine, interesting from the number
of old castles, but I think
much over-praised, not comparable
certainly to that of the vicinity of
Vevey. The party are all well
