I'm writing you because I have just recently learned that you have come back to the area, to accept a teaching post at Md. Un. I was reading the Washington Post about a week ago and saw your picture and the write up. I was completely surprised at the change of schools and of course very proud of my ex professor and friend.

I also saw your story in February's issue, "Ebony" which I immediately tore out for my own personal files. (smile)

I would really enjoy seeing you and chatting with you at some appropriate time.

I have told my husband all about you and our chats in the old days at Howard and what a tremendous source of inspiration

you provided for me during those difficult years trying to graduate etc.

You used to send me a card from your summer home sometimes but I think the last one I received was in summer 1973 or 1974.

I'm mailing this letter directly to the University of Md. and trust that you will receive it.

PLease call or drop me a note at your earliest convenience, am looking forward to seeing or hearing from you. Sincere regards to your wife & daughter.

Sincerely, Bridget W. Marshall

Mrs. Isaiah T. Creswell

July 11, 1977.

Dear Thelma and David,

We saw the documentary on Black Art that the Today show featured, it was very interesting, and especially the portion where David was interviewed. We were filled with pride at his knowledge and his delivery, and the opportunity to see a friend in action. Keep it up.

The summer is passing swiftly and soon our thoughts will be turned to school reopening. On October 3, 4, 5 President Leonard will be inaugurated. We hope you will be among those attending, and that we will see you.

Sincerely Pearl

P.S. Congratulations on receiving 2 honorary degrees! to David

Mr. David Driskell (REDACTED INFORMATION)

Dear David:

Thank you so much for your considerable and generous help. I brought all of your prints back to the office as it would be easier to bring them here, have them packaged and shipping back to you. Also Verlyn Barker would like to purchase one and would like to know the price. It occurred to Jay and me that you might let us keep your prints here in exchange for our having some of them framed.

I'm sure Jay will be in touch with you very soon concerning the wrap-up of Amistad II, in the meantime have a joyful summer, --I am off tomorrow for the Carribean.

Cordially,

Grand Spradling
