Dr. Jacqeuelyn Bontemps Department of Art Illinois State University Normal, Illinois

Dear Dr. Bontemps:

I am enclosing herewith the resume that you requested along with some suggestions relating to the function of a public (?) relations service agency in the exhibition format.

As I see things, the public relations angle of the exhibition are broad and comprehensive in their out reach. I would expect these things to be done as a result of having such services: 1. All front materials pertaining to the purpose, scope and coverage in the media would be the exacting responsibility of a public relations firm.

2. All outreach programs relating to the media as well as artists participating in the exhib ition being used by the media to advance the cause of the exhibition would go through the agency.

3. All printed materials for promotional purposes would be done by the agency.

4. (?) All prior (?) planning relating to opening events, (par ?) particularly social functions, cocktail parties, dinners, etc., would be arranged by the agency.

5. Any product relating to the promotion aspect would be done through the services of the agency.

6. All arrangements of personal visits by personalities in (adjacent ?) (?) such as film, stage, (music ?), etc., would be arranged by the agency.

Obviously, there are other things that would go along with an agency's duties if hired by your sponsoring firm

but you would be able to articulate those on the basis of need. I would assume that the nature of the exhibition, being one different from the two I recently curated, would dictate a slightly different function from the PR firm.

My typing is just awful and you are getting a real treat out of me when I sit down and hunt and peck. I hope that you, Alex and the children are well ad that you work continues to go well.

Take care and let me hear how things go from time to time.

Sincerely yours, [signture] David C. Driskell

Mr. C. Rogers Radcliffe W S M T.V. Post Office Box 100 Nashville, Tennessee 37202

Dear Rogers:

I am terribly sorry about the delay of getting this check back to you for a second time. It seems that it was not forwarded to you from [crossed out area] so I am sending it to the television station as you suggested.

It appears that I now have a sale for the house and things should be finalized within a few weeks. I want to thank you for the interest you have taken in the place and hope that things will continue to go well with you. Perhaps I will see you when I am again down that way. I am sending you a company check for the reimbursement.

Sincerely yours,

David C. Driskell [signature] David C. Driskell Director

THE PROVIDENC ATHENAEUM 251 Benefit Street, Providence, Rhode Island

December 23, 1977

Mr. David Driskell AMISTAD II 287 Park Avenue South New York, N.Y. 10010

Dear Mr. Driskell:

We are very pleased to inform you that your bids on the drawings in the Bannister Silent Auction, listed on the following two pages, were successful and have been accepted. For convenience, I have simply xeroxed your original bids, crossed out those bids that were not successful, and added a total. We will wait to hear from Edward Deines about arranging the payment and shipping.

When you make the payment, will you please list again the final destination (museum, public access collection) for each drawing. We need this information not only to satisfy our stated policy, but also to include in a complete catalog we are planning, to enable future researchers to locate the drawings.

I should note that one of our members who is very interested in Bannister's work, has told us that No. 25c, Landscape with Marsh, appears to be a prelininary sketch for an oil painting entitled "Palmer River" and listed as #19 in the 1966 Rhode Island School of Design Museum catalog.

Thank you very much for your long interest in this Bannister collection, and your help in making this a very successful auction for us.

Sincerely,

Julie M. Boegehold [signature] Julie M. Boegehold Head of Public Services
