Resolved that the [??] of the wing undertaken should be raised to the height of the surface of the Earth on the Eminance where the main building is to be Erected which will Elevate the watertable five feet fromt he surface of the Earth at the Lower End of [??] building consequently there must be outerstairs built leading to the Front outer Doors; and as no mention or Direction has been given Either in the contract or inthe said Resolve. the subscriber [??] to be Diverted by this board in what manner and of what materials those stairs are to be build of. whether of solid timber as those at Hillsbr =bro courthouse. or of Plank as those at the state house at Fayetteville and whether they Lead to Right or Left or Go straight up from the surface of the Earth to the Doors Further the subscriber having Examined the building stone Near the seat of the University and find them ill shaped and hard to shape & form fit for any [??] of a capitall building. he has also consulted Mr Rogers the person that conducted the building the walls of the Statehouse at Raleig who is also of opinion that well burnt Glazed bricks are much better then such stone to build the foundation off. Especially as the foundation will only Go one foot under the surface of the Earth. Should the [??] aprove of that alteration they will please to Give Directions acordingly to prevent [??] in future Further the subscriber having as much fire wood already cut on the streets of the Village as would burn about one hundred thousand Bricks [??] therefor Prayer the favour of the Comissioners to Have Leave to make & burn such a number of bricks on the brick yard where Colol. John Hagen made his bricks. which will be the means of getting the Limestone burnt with the bricks. and of getting it [??] just as it is wanted on the spot where it will be made use off; this undoutedly will prove the means of Greatly strengthening his most ardent Endeavors of not only further= -ing the public buildings but also of improving the illage For the Reseption of family who wish to Retreat from the Lower Parts of the state to that most Healthy situation in the summer season this Priviledge would not be asked for was there a Probability of its Ever Doing an injury to the Place in any shape whatsoever as the clay Reaches No deeper in the Earth than from two to three fee and a Graduall Depart from the place where the clay will be Dug which will be the means of Preventingany Stagnated water from settling there and there shall Not be on treecut for the Purpose on the Lands belonging to the University and the most Graccious indulgence will Lay under obligation
