Acceptance
Rockingham, N.C. March 12th 1855.
My Dear Sir:
Your printed letter informing me of my appointment as Agent of the University for certain purposes, came to hand a few days ago. In compliance with your request, I have taken this, the earliest opportunity which has presented itself, to inform you of my acceptance of the trust, and my willingness to do all in my power to secure to the University all what the laws of the state has given her.
I do not expect to be able to do much in the way of collecting funds for her benefit; for our people have, in the main, more heirs than property. When I get tired of the place, I shall resign, of course.
On Friday last, we had a severe wind, and as many farmers had set fire to their new grounds, the damage done to the fences
