Friday Feb 13

The same -- About town some -- & at another house farther north on same street that we have concluded to move into -- next to S M Jamison's -- belonging to Hoffman of the Washoe Brewery -- Helped at home to prepare for the moving -- Bed at 11 -- Lots of cracker popping & bombs firing in Chinatown in honor of their New Year tomorrow -

Saturday Feb 14

The same -- St. Valentine's Day -- Worked hard all day moving -- 2 drays came at 11 AM & we commenced pulling out -- They hauled 6 loads, & we got all moved but the wood, & got one load of that -- Hat tough days work of it but succeeded -- Much more room than in other house, & at the same rent -- $10 per month -- Got stoves up & all in running order -- Bed at 10 -- The Chinese had their usual New Years jollification today -- Got letter from my old Comstock friend Henry Donnel today, from Bridgeport California -- Only a friendly little letter -

Francisco, en route for Carson -- Great day, in Carson -- Holiday -- Legislature adjourned last Saturday till Tuesday for the purpose -- 46 bodies of the soldiers buried at Fort Churchill, including Major McDermot arrived about 11 1/2 AM for re-interment in Carson Cemetery -- artillery Co from Va, and several Grand Army vets from the Comstock arrived at 10 1/2 -- with Cara's brass band -- Carson Guard also, turned out, long procession, including the Legislature and attaches, and carriages with State officers -- I marched with the Senate Attaches -- Major McDermot's remains in cast-iron casket, rode on gun carriage of artillery with American flag spread over it, -- All the other remains were in small wooden boxes in

Geo R. Dicky Jose The Dalys in "Vacation"

resident of Reno came up withe REno Guard as a member, & having one of the finest tenor voices I ever heard, he favored us with several popular ballads, with others to accompany him -- After the funeral was over he was at the Hole-in-the-Wall saloon, Capt Avery's and sang, & the bands also played there -- Met Tom [Cara???] and his band, all of whom are old acquaintances, and also met many others from the Comstock -- Wandered about till I was most tired to death -- Evening attended Opera House -- Piper passed me in -- The Daly's in "Vacation" -- Very funny troupe -- crowded house -- Home at 11 -- Met Mrs Mike Farrell on the train from Reno this

forenoon -- She is just from Austin -- says plenty of snow there -- Has come in to be with Mike, who is in Carson for a short visit -- I took charge of her & escorted her to the Arlington, where Mike is topping -- Got a letter from H Harris, Gold Hill, today -- old man Harris -- Wrote up this journal, read myself up, and bed at 1 oclock -- thoroughly tired --

Cloudy but very pleasant -- I attended session -- got bill to engross this PM -- Evening I engrossed it -- Senate Bill no 104, "An Act to amend an Act, entitled "An Act in relation to county assessors, their terms of office and compensation" --

Telegram to Summerfield Watch cleaned 23 bills

This makes 23 bills -- I also sent the following telegram this evening to Sardis

Summerfield, Austin Nev., dated 17th -- Pack blue chest in my room with the small box of tools, smallest saw, and fill up with books and things. Screw lid down, and ship freight together with box of rock, Wednesday noon if possible. Direct to me at Reno, and telegraph me when started -- Will write you tomorrow -- Bed at 11 -- telegram cost $1.70 -- didnt sent it as night telegram -- CW Friend fixed my watch today -- cleaned & put in 1st rate order -- Itw as keeping bad time, stopping when not required to.

Cloudy & very blustering, with a few light sprinkles of rain but not enough to lay the dust, which rolled in violent clouds down the cross streets -- Passed a very feverish miserable night last night -- Have overdone myself lately -- the last five days or Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday -- Almost broke down -- Attended session today -- Wrote some at home -- Evening attended 1st evening session of Senate -- Assembly not yet taken to evening sessions -- Telegram from Summerfield: "Goods start in the morning as directed" Wrote letter to wife & one to Henry Donnel -- Bed at 12 1/2 --

morning, which laid the dust quite effectually -- Rose at 8 -- shaved -- while shaving, I had an easy fit of coughing, and expectorated a small piece of apparently fleshy mucus, a little bloody,about the sizeof a pea, but not hard or round.It was soft and chewed stringy and meaty between my teeth, giving me the idea that the terrible cough I have had since leaving Battle Mountain has culminated in consumption of the right lung -- That lung has always bothered me, from childhood. My Battle Mountain cough is about gone, however, and there may be nothing in my

Slogging Skewes vs Hones

suspicions, but the impression is strong upon me that I coughed up a small scrap of my lungs this morning -- I attended session today but got nothing to do -- Evening I attended the big slogging entertainment at the Opera House -- Jam full -- 1st a regular boxing glove match between Elliott and Edwards -- 3 rounds -- even -- commencing at 9 oclock -- Then a match, hard gloves, between Hones, a Londoner and Skewes, an old Comstocker, from Bodie -- 6 rounds -- Hones seemed to have best of it first 2 rounds, but waked up Skewes and was likely to get licked, so he made a foul on the 6th round, by striking Skewes twice while down -- Foul claimed
