of the Garrison who are off duty to walk upon the ramparts or Terrace till 8 in the Morning & after 5 in the afternoon, they behaving themselves properly. 16th No arms, Guns, Ammunition or Treasure to be passed the Gates without a pass signed by the Town Mayor. - - 17th The following orders to be observed in opening the Gates of the Garrison. -- As soon as the Sergeants with the Keys arrives at the Gate. The Officer orders his Guard under arms; The Sergeant is then to unlock all the Gates except the outer one, the wicket of which is only to be opened to let a Corporal & four Europeans out who are to move out some Distance

Distance from the Barrier to see if any Body of Troops is near at hand. As soon as the Corporal returns & reports that there is nothing extraordinary the outer Gate is to be unlocked; but should any Body of Troops be perceived by the Party. The Wicket is immediately to be locked & a report made to the Captain of the main Guards: during the opening & shutting of the Gates all the Guards are to continue under Arms & the Officers to be at their heads. 18th.
