Rockford Ill sep. 3. 1915 Hon. Will. St. Fry Dear Sir:- After a careful study of the Joe Hillstrom case I believe the state of Utah is going to commit on of the worst crimes known to mankind. Can it be possible that a man of the twentieth century is going to be mudered by the great state of Utah. I still will have faith up to the last minute that you will pardon Joes Hillstrom and save the disgrace that will fall upon the state of Utah. Hoping you will give my little appeal some consideration yours truly, Clyde Horigh 1201 Cordon St.

Twin Falls Idaho Sept 4 1915 Governor Spry Dear Sir, We having been following the case of Joseph Hillstrom we know he is innocent. If he is shot you the judge and business people of SaltLake and the state of Utah will be held resposnsible for his death, it will be the most fiendish kind of sabatoge and direction action if he is shot for fighting for industrial freedom for the wages slaves, he is not really being trialed for the grocery man's dead that is a scheme to murder rebellious slaves, you for justice for the working class Archer Hamsley

Governor of Utah

I have read in the press of Labor about the case of Joe Hill who is confined in prison in your State and sentenced to be shot Oct 1st and I write to you on the holiday of Labor and ask you to do all in your power to see that the apparent injustice is not carried out. There seems to be some doubt in the minds of the people of the East as to his guilt and it is claimed that he is marked as was John Lawson for no other reason than his activity in behalf of the under paid Labor mentioned in the recent Manly report of the Industrial Relation Commission. If you in your judgment feel that he is guilty you can still commute his sentence because the State will not gain by his execution as much as it will by displaying some Humanity to one who should be given every opportunity to prove his innocence in what is a doubtful case. yours Truly G. Q. Herring 2130 Penn St
