Governor of Utah,

Salt Lake City, Utah.

My dear Sir,

My attention has been called to the fact that a working-man by the name of Joseph Hill is to be executed by the state of Utah on October first.

From the facts of the case against this man, Hill, I want to say that I [believe?] it is a case of injustice. Utah wants to kill Hill because he stands for his class and it is not a tool in the hands of the capitalist class in Utah. When Utah kills Joe Hill, it commits murder.

You alone have the power, to stop this damning outrage.

And I ask for you, as Governor of the State that intends to kill this champion of labour

that you do all in your power to save this man from the vengence the money-power of Utah longs to wreak upon him.

If Joe Hill pays the penalty of honesty by death at the hands of Utah, a thousand new will rise to take his place.

Thanking you for what you may do in the matter and assuring you that [?] will be appreciated, I am

Very truly yours

Howe D. Higgins.

To the governor of the State of Utah:

Dear Sir: I write to urge you to stay the execution of Joe Hill which the reports say is to take place on October 1st 1915 From all the information I can get in regard to this case it seems to me that Joe Hill is not guilty of the crimes he was charged with. And as long as there is a reasonable doubt of the mans guilt his life should not be forfeited. A great many persons beleive that Joe Hill is being prosecuted (persecuted) because he was connected with an unpopular organization of laboring men and that his exexcution is intended to have a salutary effect on such organ nizations rather than to punish a crime actually committed. Of [course] you can not be a party to such an act. I earnestly urge you to stay this execution. A.E. House

Hon William Spry Governor of the State of Utah Salt Lake City Utah

Honored Sir: We the undersigned request your kind attention to our plea for executive clemency in the case of Joseph Hillstrom under death penalty in your State, at the present time, and grant him a commutation of sentence. By reviewing the case from all angels we have reached the conclusion that the said Joseph Hillstrom has been dealt with unfairly to say the least it being quite apparent that he has been convicted for something differerent from

the murders for which he was seemingly tried. It looks very plainly to persons removed from the seat of trouble and in different States that this man has been made a scape goat and that the real perpetrator of the crime, is probably at large and unapprehended. I am the full conviction that the hand of malice which is pursuing the life of Joseph Hillstrom, dare not, & can not reach out into the executive chambers of the State of Utah nor exert any malicious influence over into stalwart and judicious [chief], we are, honored, sir Yours Very Respectfully F.
