1856 Augt 11 Finished the Lot nearly — -- 12th Augt began to Thrash wheat Ben with Kellys machine cloudy & like for Rain

13th Several Showers about this time Thrashing this morning & rained stoped us Bob & Joshua here from Mrs Hunts

14th we have been 2 whole days trying to Thrash Our wheat & it has rained so we have not finished yet. Toping & worming & succoring Tobacco this morning cloudy & Rained finely last night weather warm finished Thrashing wheat to day & car^d the machine to James P Lewis in evening

15 I am going to Riceville carry Jordan the Doct May see him,- Toping worming & & succoring over all our tobacco at this time, Sewed our Turnip Patch last week & some seed in Lot by Hog pen —

16th worming & succoring Tobacco Henry

18th I went to Court Monday morning & stayed till Tuesday night settled with D Marr & all McCullocks Legatees & had the acc^t Reported in full by Comm Banks as pr Rec^ts & settled for Adams & Martha as here give up the Bond & took a Rec^t and if any Cost they have it to pay for advertising etc,- Borrowed $200 of Bro. Geo. Gilbert for a month — Our folks finished cutting pines at stony pint Grubed some Henry Lowry & claiborne Sawed shingle Timble & on Tuesday the 19th it Rained in the evening they got up apples & Beet Cider —

20 My wife gone to Mrs Hunts sent by her $119.21 to pay Dan^l R Hunt for Guano $10 for Lucy Ann collected for her Henry gone

Commencing 11th March 1856. This morning I Fed my Dogs as usual Caesar I reckon got Chocked & Dyed in 2 minutes or 4 minutes, we are treading out Oats this morning fencing about Tobacco Tobacco lot. Very like for Snow Soon this morning Very cold indeed windy & tremendous yesterday — Jordan Halling Rails around Corn field fence & lot at House yesterday & to day – — wrote to Dan^l Brown Indiana in this month etc etc

14 Plowing for corn till yesterday began to sew Oats Plowing Tobacco Lot by Garden Henry & Jacob Finishing Garden, Jordan halled Rails 2 days this week & finished malling wood in new ground, alse cleaning out Stable, Kitty Clem etc cleaning up on Branch Light full of Snow the 13th Thursday in evening

14th A beautifull day indeed clear & moderate

15th Went to meeting at Strait Stone fine day -

16th Beautiful day. pretty Cool & dry at this time Plowing up & sewing Oats On branch malling wood & Halling out new ground took up Irish Potatoes this day set out Turnips for seed about 100 in Turnip Patch last week,- clem alse & Kitty Piling wood in new ground,-

17th Raining to day Sewing some Oats Shoe mending fencing sent Henry to store, sent 1/6 for Paint & allum

20 Finished fencing Sewing Oats by Malissa House windy - - Fannie White here this evening Jerry & George Edd finished nailing on old Paling [water stain]day - Striping to day & yesterday [smudge][water stain] Rain, sent Mrs Moseleys will to [water stain] Geo. - Sawed about 40 [water stain] etc

24th March 1856 Given Fed Henry Jordan & Sandy some flour this morning — Went to Mrs Hunts & meeting House yesterday Striped tobacco all day Saturday not Rolled Logs yet nor finished sewing Oats – My wife went to Mrs Hunts yesterday,very windy to day. I went to Mr John D Hunts to day

25 March Rolled Our Logs & sent to Yates Mill 3 Bags Corn for meal carried 1 Log for Garden Paling & brot home 2 Bags meal & Garden Palings – windy day & moderate

26 Beautiful morning Halled up stack Oats to sew Sandy & Lowry Plowing in Oats Fed & Claiborne malling Balance fencing where wind blew it down yesterday, - let Mr Mr Lewis have 1 Bushel Oats Sallie started to school this 16th March 1856

27 Finished sewing Oats Sewed about 55 Bushels

28th Sewed flax Patch Plowing for Corn - Halling leaves out of new ground on ^Land Corn Began to Colter in fresh ground, Swingled flax this morning,- Clary Had a Heifer calfvery windy cool & dry weather yesterday we had a light fall of snow & very windy - all day Blowed down fencing again — we have only 4 Lambs to this day — —

29th Plowing for Corn Halling wood getting leaves for corn corn field etc Finished Raking new ground Coltering in Fresh ground fixing Barns there etc

30 Went to Mrs Moseleys Funeral Sermon Preached at Strait Stone Church by Elder Burton from Charlotte cty V^a from 14 Chapter Revelations & 1 Verse Beautiful day little cool Hymns Sunday at her Funeral Virginia Selection 484th 476th 467th Hymns Solemn day -

31st cleaning up & Halling from Ground Henry shilings shingles Plowing for Corn My wife gone Mrs Hunts Beatifull day little cool & very [water stain]

April 1st Began to Hill to day Halling [water stain] Henry getting shingles sent Lowry [water stain]

Riceville with a Load of fodder 885 lbs Balance worming succoring & Toping Tobacco began on branch quite cool this day - & fair ——

21s Worked On Road Fletcher did not attend Mr Lewis’s hand late coming

22nd worming & succoring Tobacco & toping Henry getting shingles - clear day = all ^of ^ ^{us at} this at time thanks be God are getting about a little -

27 Been to association at Sweet Sleeve got back Tuesday - Jacob went. Our hands fixed plant Bed Shrubed in fresh field, and now they are worming & succoring out Tobacco & Toping Began to Pull fodder in fresh ground yesterday Mr F Wyatt came here to work about 9^th Oclock Monday morning - getting shingles at this time cutting down trees this morning Henry Jordan & Claiborne Sawing - cloudy & like for Rain =

28th Sawing shingle blocks till 12 oclock Fountain getting shingles balance pulled some fodder tyed up & stacked what we had pulled

29 Halled stacks to yates saw mill to day Saw waggon 4 Logs & Cart 3 Logs Balance worming toping & succoring lot warm & cloudy & like for rain somedays past nights cool — sent 5 Bushels wheat & 8 Bushels Corn for meal to day

30th waggon halled 3 Logs & cart 2 D^o to yates Saw Mill Making 12 in all there worming Tobacco & succoring at Stony pint & in Lot gath ering Green apples & putting them in overseers House quite cool Mr Wyatt getting shingles all this week shower rain last evening clear to day

31st augt 1856 Fanny White came here & Kate & her children gone to Capt Fitzgeralds to day Rained & they stayed all night –

Sept 1st 1856 Rained all night quite cool Kate has not come home yet doing but little this morning raining Fed ^{& mending}shoemaking balance shelling Corn & spining Henry in shop about wheels etc

2nd Fair this morning & we are putting up & framing top of it Mr Wyatt came this morning, succoring & worming over tobacco to day - Kate car^d Fan =nies children home this evening, very cool Fannies Eliza sick at this time, - Nannie teeth & Jaws very sore & rising I am afraid,

=3rd Halled Logs etc for Barn put top on finished putting up Logs wyatt & Henry at work on barn pulling fodder till 12 oclock, clear day

4th Wyatt & Henry at work on Barn pulling fodder worming & succoring branch & new ground Tobacco to day & then we will daub & chink Barns to day — Jacob gone to Fannies to carry Kate to school Start Tomorrow morning morning gave her $45 started from here to day after 12 oclock on Thursday = clear pretty day —

5 wormed & succoring Tobacco till 12 oclock Then stacking Blade fodder & tying up till night put up 2 Stacks to day Henry & sandy been with Mr Wyatt at work on Barn got the top ready to raise

6th Put Top on Barn next to Mr Crews worming & succoring there — Halling up shingles wyatt stoped at 12 oclock gathering & stacking fodder on Path
