An Agreement made and entered into th[is] 1st day of Novr 1876 between Jeremiah W Grav[es\ of the one part of Pittsya County Va of the one and Jacob P Graves of the County & state aforesaid of the the other part Witnesseth That the the said JWGraves being old and Cant attend to his plantation as he wis= hes has engaged the said Jacob P to come to his & attend to his plantation & given up the old part of the house for him & family to live in 1877 to 25th December find himself & family Get One or Two good hands to work the plantation on shares find one Horse feed that Keep study and atten[d] to business, - the said JW Graves turn sufficient to lend the plantation with Jacobs mare & also Hoes Grub & Hi Plows & Gear all of which he is to to return at the end of the year and give the said JW Graves one fourth of the corn wheat on Oats or Rye Tobacco & fodder& [shuck] that that may be made the year 1877 taking out all Seed he may so[w] for the year 1877 the straw & chaff I dont give no part of that, I furnish own Cart & yoke steers

April 2d Monday Holliday. close cloudy and raining to day --
April 3 Tuesday thrashed out one stack of oats Jim harrowing in oats Almond coltering Scye Mashall coltering
April 4th Wednesday Finished sowing oats to day sowed nearly 20 bushels Almond and Scye Marshall coltering Annie burning brush Jacob went with Boker Fitzgerald to Mt Airy to attend the warrant between him and Abram Glenn George Little was killed at Mt Airy about daylight by William Henry Keatts died in five minutes after he was cut there was five large gashes cut on him with a large Dirk Knife by Keatts
April 5th Thursday Striped Tobacco untiil dinner Almond carried a load of plankson the creek planted out hot bed of sweet potatoes I went to Mount Airy in the evening to see George Little did not see him saw his clothes which was completely riddled by a Knife in the Hands of William Henry Keatts -- Jim and Almond listing corn land commenced listing to day ----

1877 April 7 Saturday Listing corn land until Dinner after dinner planted Irish potatoes Scye coltering on ditch
April 8 Sunday raining all day
April 9th Monday raining to day Making Brooms hoe helves etc etc
April 10 Tuesday went to mill to day raining most of the day
April 11th Wednesday rolled logs on Branch in corn field listed corn land in the evening
April 12 Thursday listing and cleaning up corn land on Branch in lot below spring
April 13th Friday beded up corn land back of corn house went to mill after meal raining in the evening very cold rain
Saturday April 14th Coltering on Branch in corn field and new ground Scye splitting up wood in new ground manured plant beds this evening - plants large as three cents no flies made there appearance yet
April 15th Sunday
April 16th Monday listing corn land with 3 plows hoeing up land with women on the ditche on corn land
April 17th Tuesday listing corn land hoeing up land on ditch with women
April 18th Thursday rained ground out of order commenced planting corn in the evening in in grave yard lot
