Q State your name.
A Henry Kirke White.
Q You were the book keeper of the RMC & I Co. [Rocky Mountain Coal & Iron Co.]?
A Yes.
Q When did you commence? When did your engagement as book keeper commence and when did it end?
A I engaged myself with Gen. Colton on the 1st of January 1871.
Q When did you commence keeping the books of the RM C & I Co. [Rocky Mountain Coal & Iron Co.]?
A I think some time in Feb-ruary, I am not certain, 1871.
Q How long did that employment continue? A Until I think March 1877.
Q What books did you keep as bookkeeper of the RM C & I Co. [Rocky Mountain Coal & Iron Co.]?
A I kept such books as Gen. Colton ordered me to. I kept a cashbook & ledger. that was

the use of Colton, signed by yourself?
A No sir. I think not.
Q It appears from reference to his account that at one time he paid the London & SF. bank $1087.17 on a note made by H. K. White.
A No I did, it was under his directions. I have forgotten.
Q And does interest on an-other note $558.40, a note made by yourself.
A Well, if I did sign notes it was by his order.
Q For whose benefit were they?
A Not for me; for him.
Q Cannot you remember whether you ever made a note on which the monthly interest was over a thousand dollars or five hundred dollars?
A No sir I couldn't recollect.
Q If you did do that. You did it for his benefit?
A For him, on, under his order.

information can you give about that $30?
A I do not know anything about it.
Q You cannot give any explanation about that?
A No Sir. I cannot now.

Q D 3 Amount paid by the Central Pacific R. R. Co. for broken car locks, $18. If that amount was collected from the Central Pacific R. R. Co. what became of it?
A I cannot say Sir. I know there was a bill of $18 for broken car locks a long time in the office. It was sent down from the mine. My impression is now that it was refused payment but whether it was subsequently collected is more than I can tell. I do not know.
Q There appears to be a letter written by H. K. White Secretary — dated, January 2nd 1874 "There was an old claim of $18 for broken car locks on

H. K. White elected director to fill the vacancy. Do you remember that meeting when you were elected director?
A I think that meeting was held in the office on Montgomery St.
Q Was anything stated as to what the terms of the settlement were?
A No Sir. I do not recollect of any. It only occurs to my mind that there was such meeting at that time, but the terms of the settlement I do not recollect. No "term"[crossed out] statement were mentioned in my presence of any settlement.
Q Do you remember any thing about why that should be charged to the Company instead of to Colton?
A I cannot explain it any further.
Q Either the stock was bought for the Company, or it was bright for Colton; If it was bought for the Company what became of the stock?
A That $2500 was no doubt
