But was it better then in 86 because I had no consideration of moving here, as I did in 1985 or this time. Perhaps. That 86 trip was free to be an unreal fantasy, but this trip is just a vivid rerun of what I felt about LA in 1985, when I wrote about it. The last time before, those Sep '85 trips to LA, was Sep '84 trip that turned out to be awful, locking myself out of apartment, escaping to Laguna, doing MDA there, meeting Calfin Marcus, 102, awful. I was so happy to be back in Seattle after that. Remember how I didn't even stop at gym on the way to Palm Springs at Thx '84. Doing drugs so much then made me unstable.

OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS, I'VE MADE TRIPS TO LA ONLY IN THE FALL, but there have been other trips to So Cal,

- Laguna July 4 '86

- Palm Springs + San Diego Autum '86

2:00 Dick goes to gym. Move ~ 7:00. Read Chap 1 of "Computer Animation." Make pasta + eat rest of chicken. Decide not to go to SD or OC? Maybe go to SF right away? (Thought mentally about all places in S. Cal.)

4:15 Go for a drive. REALIZED STRONGLY I WANT A PLACE OF GREAT CEREBRAL ENERGY. I WANT TO STUDY THINGS AND HAVE A GAY LIFESTYLE. Before going driving, call Tony Constantines number, get recorder "We are not in..."

They dealt more with techniques than with technical details. READING CHAP 12 [yellow highlight] was one of the most informative letting me know what's important to success in animation. As I stated in "Strategy for the Second Half of 89". Its a very similar situation to what I felt in trying to be musically expressive. [yellow highlight] 5:00 Go to Irvine for frozen yogurt. Uncomfortable around him, looks, clothes + pradishness +haircut + zits (my). It's not something I want [underline] to do. At Studio 1: "Come down + we can comiserate together" about not having boyfriends. "Come down + help no plant palm trees". Not much interest in talking with me. Awkward the last time. 9:00 Watch news + some "Singing in rain". 9:30 Relax 10:00 Read Chap 14 of "Animation" Future. Shower. 11:00 This trip to OC I have spent weekdays [underline] (nonholiday) for first time in the last six years. It's pleasant, but a little too [underline] quiet. No gay gyms. It was [underline] appropriate in 80 + 81. But not anymore. [yellow highlight] And Glen lives here now. Also now that, I've done app interface for Works, I won't program [underline] anything more like it.

Saw quiet, somber, bearded guy from Bill Morgan's 1983 Christmas party, from which I left alone, wo/Bob, who went home w/Jim Applegate.

Had one Seven-Up. No alcohol, but there were some hunks there, not for me.

Talked w/Jim A awhile.

Bill F. went to OC + SD last weekend.

Not drinking after midnight so I get full REM sleep.

Saw but didn't talk with last Halloween's Eve nor this guy who lived behind Microsoft in a condo, Ralph somebody.

Sep '82 Russian River with Brad. Very nice vacation at river and at Trocadero and Olympics

Feb '83 LA weekend - rainy - quiet

July '83 Orange County to visit Tim. Pleasant but no thrills.

Sep '83 Trip to SF + Russian River. Spent lots of time thinking ~ work. Saw Chip + Stanford

So all those trips were just vacations, or weekend getaways. I MET NO NEW HOT MEN ON THOSE TRIPS. But that was ok. Seattle was hot in '82 + 83 with Bob + Brad.

Sometimes I feel bad that I didn't make better use of OC when I was there. Or that I never lived in LA itself. Or body-built then. But I was doing what I wanted pretty much. Russell + persfin + tech analysis in 1980 and Atari Basics + travel every weekend in 1981. THERE WAS NO INTEREST IN LA.

But then I got something of a body after Bob + I broke up.

9:00 Think more about using vacation. Decide on Hawaii Dec 7-15. Decide to go to work + not SF. I don't want to put time into SF.

10:15 Get ready + go to work. Finish fixing ssload for 123 V2 having rows greater than 4096 or screens going from 43 to 25.

4:00 Leave, but decide against gym since I just went yesterday. Go home + drop off pants at cleaners. Regroup

5:00 Try to decide what I want to do tonite. Where to go...I had a reservation to Orange Cty but then I considered SF again. I knew I wanted to go to Cal to help celebrate defeat of 64. During dinner and while packing I thought about it...
