1846 May 9th Weather warm & fine about this time, Finished fencing about 12 Bushing wheat & oats -

10th Showers this day & turned cool in evening

11th began to Replant & Plow corn this day Replanted all the side of the the Branch next to Tobacco Houses & part of the side & Plowed all drill corn nearly

12 Hilling & Coltering in second

13 done collering & laying off second yrsground gone to mill this morning lent Wm Neale 2 mugs of Coffee this morning my wife Which she has to clean her teeth began to Cross Coltering on Branch

14 Finished hilling second years ground Plowing corn - 15th Drawing Plants

15 & Planting Yobacco this day in new ground Raining & we are Planting Tobacco

16 Finished Planting new ground Tobacco Thining corn this morning Phil gone to Shop & mill

17 Meeting day at S. S. M H. a good day

18 Cloudy Plowing corn & Replanting corn & hilling on Branch 19 My waggon start to Lynchg 20th myself Mrs Clements & John starts this morning sold our Tobacco for Little or nothing 21st hilling on Branch

1846 June 13th. Rained all night Branch high Two or Three times yesterday & last night spining, sho[e]making & making basket - all in house wind has been N. E. all this week - quite cool=

14th Rained again last night very hard & We have done no work since last Monday nearly a week - still cloudy wind N.E. yet

14 cloudy last Rained very hard, in the evening of this day it cleared off

15th This morning cloudy & foggy & We are about to commence plowing laying by our corn thats drilled

16 Raining last night & again this evening & stop us work I never saw such a corn field in my life & not much more than ½ done windy

17th Cutting mountain field wheat to day

18 Rained this evening Laying by corn in evening & weeding —

19 Cutting wheat this morning in second yrs ground — had 3 calves to this day went Plowing & weeding corn finished Plowing Big field this evening before it Rained

20th Rained last evening ground too wet to Plow & we are doing but little — at 12 Oclock laying by corn & finished this evening weeding big field —

21st Fair day & cool. Meeting at S.S.

22nd Laying by & weeding this side branch below cow pen Plowing cotton etc etc.

15th Working on Our Road this morning Digging Irish potatoes & beeting Peaches working oat garden & drying fruit about this time 16th Meeting at S. S. M

17 Went to Court & stayed till Tuesday night the Suit of Moon agst me taken out of Court & referred[?]each man paying his Own Cost. Worming & succoring Tobacco

19 began to still again

20 Still treding out wheat & finished& Digging Irish Potatoes & Drying fruit etc etc etc

21st treading wheat & stilling & Drying fruit

22nd Finished treading wheat & stilling

23 Sunday Rained this evening 2 good showers

24th Sewed turnip Patch Over, & also in garden toping & succoring & worming Tobacco

25. Raining this morning & all night making Baskets, shoeing making for C.S. & spining etc etc Wind cool & from N.W.

26 Succoring Tobacco & Sent to mill in the evening began to Pull fodder in big field

27th Pulling fodder in big field yesterday lent Mr. Crews Lady Jane to go to Mill

28. Beating cider etc etc

29. worming new ground Tobacco & Tying up fodder

30. Sunday - weather seasonable this week cloudy nearly every& rainingday

31. Pulling fodder & finished big field.

Sept 1st Pulling fodder & succoring Tobacco

- 2. Phil gone to mill 2 Bags & carried one stack to be sawed into squared edged Plank

3 about Fodder & succoring & wormingtobacco

4 Saving Fodder & in Tobacco

5th Still the same & not done pulling yet, put savining about 8 stacks.

14 Housing Tobacco & shoemaking

15 gone to Mr. John D Hunts to get apples to put up for winter = ground still full wet to sew wheat — = Picking out cotton

16th Sewing wheat in fresh ground next to orchard - spreading f[l]ax to rot 16 Sewing wheat in fresh ground nextorchard

17. Do Do & spreading out flax cutting down corn stalks next to middlebarn

18. Sunday S.S. meeting clear fine day

19. Finished sewing wheat in Granary lot & Killed Beef. weighed 200 lbs

20 Digging sweet Potatoes large frost & up for seed 1 Bbl in closet & Box & Bbl in stack ——— Top stack

21. Sewing wheat in fresh ground & putting up apples & Irish Potatoes

22nd Finishing fresh groundsewingwheat & Pulling corn & halling wood

23. sewed square opposit[e] to middle BarnMy wife taken sick before day this morning & about 8 Oclock in morning had her second children Doct Sutphin & Mrs. Neal here Girl Pulling & halling corn out of Big field left hand side of Path towards Barns —

24 Halling up corn etc —25th Sunday

26 Halling up corn & finished the big field

27. Shucking & Housing corn — & had at night a Shucking & finished

28 & 29th Finishing HousingCorngot big corn House nearly full & short corn to Fatten Hogs & cutting down & getting up corn stalks to sew wheat —

30 Halling corn stalks & began t[o] Break up ground for wheat

1848 Augt 14th Thomas Templeton came after a search warrant this morning to search Mrs Garrotts House for his Tobacco, lost — We got apples for vinegar at stony point in evening a fine Rain indeed

15th Cloudy & foggy this morning. we Beeting apples & getting up for vinegar I am sick & have been for 2 weeks & several have desperate coughs it may be Hooping cough. —

18 Worming & succoring Tobacco & going to meeting all this week. Revival at Strait Stone at this time WmH Plunket Pastor Several showers of Rain in 10 days past, beautiful one last night

20th began to Rain to day about 11 or 12 oclock we were all at a great meeting at strait stone

21 Still Raining & wind Blows from N.E. ground very wet indeed cool wet weather

22 Fair day Toping & worming Tobacco

23 Same work, began to Plow for wheat, cloudy & like for Rain ——————

29. Sent to Doct. Whites mill 1 Large Log for Paling & 5 or 6 Bushels corn — Henry gone worming & succoring branch & lot to day & Granary Lot -

31st & 30. Getting up & beeting apples for Brandy finished over Tobacco 30th Inst. weather fair & warm

31st Pulling mountain field fodder
